Ayurveda varicose veins. How Indian Ayurveda treats varicose veins. How varicose veins manifest themselves and the causes of occurrence
Oriental medicine methods are effective in the treatment of many diseases, including varicose veins. Ancient teachings are based on wisdom and experience, proven over thousands of years. Ayurveda is a popular Eastern practice that explains the causes of diseases and how to treat them. The main postulate of the doctrine is the desire for the unity of soul and body.
What it is
Ayurveda is the ancient science of a long and healthy life. The doctrine was born more than 5000 years ago in India, today its provisions are practiced by doctors all over the world.
In ancient times, Ayurvedic treatment methods penetrated the Middle and Far East, formed the basis of medicine in most Arab countries. With the development of trade with India, the principles of the doctrine reached Europe, where they were reflected in the postulates of the treatment of many diseases.
At the beginning of the 20th century, Indian teaching came to the United States of America, and at the end of the century it became widespread in Russia. Today, science is practiced not only by yoga and Ayurveda, but also by more than 3,500 registered doctors.
The basis of the teaching is the achievement of physical and mental harmony, since imbalance becomes the cause of the development of diseases.
According to Ayurveda, personality consists of five primary elements:
If the elements are in balance, the state of Prakriti sets in - a person is considered completely healthy.
The doctrine presents a classification of peculiar personality psychotypes (Doshas):
- cotton wool- air;
- pitta- Water and fire;
- kapha- water, earth, space.
It is similar to the separation of temperaments in psychology (sanguine, choleric, phlegmatic) and implies the absence of a pure element. Ayurveda teaches that all three vital forces are simultaneously in a person, but one of them is more pronounced.
In a healthy personality, the Doshas are in harmony, while constantly feeling the influence of environmental factors. If the latter manage to unbalance them, diseases develop.
The task of Ayurveda is to restore balance and harmony to the Doshas. Unlike traditional medicine, which is based on establishing the cause of the pathology and eliminating it, Indian teaching seeks and removes the factor that has upset the balance of vital forces. After that, the disease recedes.
The key point in Ayurvedic treatment is nutrition that takes into account the Doshas of the patient: when using “your” products, you can permanently get rid of diseases, “foreign” food becomes the cause of exacerbation of pathologies and the appearance of new ones. The water balance is also taken into account.
The composition of the treatment necessarily includes aromatherapy (massages, baths, body wraps), the use of medicinal herbs and plants, yoga classes.
Ayurveda recognizes that not all diseases can be healed with it. According to the classification of teachings, pathologies are divided into easily and difficult to treat, incurable, in which you can only alleviate the patient's condition.
Ayurveda therapy is indicated for diseases:
- heart and blood vessels: anemia, atherosclerosis, varicose veins veins, hemorrhoids, hypertension, thrombosis;
- skin: acne, vitiligo, alopecia, urticaria, leukoderma, lichen, dandruff, psoriasis;
- digestive organs: gastritis, colitis, diverticulosis, constipation, reflux, flatulence, hyperacidity stomach, irritable bowel syndrome;
- musculoskeletal system: arthritis, arthrosis, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, gout, sciatica, rheumatism;
- respiratory system and ENT organs: bronchial asthma, bronchitis, otitis, sinusitis, tonsillitis;
- neurological nature: sleep disturbance, depression, migraine, neuromuscular disorders, paralysis, chronic fatigue;
- reproductive system: infertility, impotence, heavy menstruation, oligospermia, premature ejaculation, frigidity;
- urinary organs: cystitis, kidney stones;
- endocrine system: hypothyroidism, diabetes, obesity.
Ayurveda techniques alleviate the condition of women in menopause, with premenstrual syndrome, postpartum depression. Her practices help improve appetite, which is important in the treatment of anorexia, relieve allergies, relieve pain, reduce temperature, and so on.
A course of treatment
The development of varicose veins in Indian practices is associated with an imbalance of Vata Dosha, in which pressure in the vessels increases, blood circulation is disturbed, which leads to wear of the valves and stretching of the walls of the veins.
If disharmony touches the Pitta Dosha, complications of the pathology will arise: thrombophlebitis, trophic ulcers.
To bring the Doshas into balance, one should change the diet and perform Ayurvedic practices.
According to the doctrine, most pathologies develop due to malnutrition. Disturbed digestion does not allow useful elements to be properly absorbed, their lack is reflected in the state of the body.
To get rid of varicose veins, you need to eat foods that restore the balance of Vata and Pitta doshas.
The basis of the diet should be:
- vegetable fats;
- whole grains;
- milk and dairy products;
- sweet fruits.
It is allowed to include legumes, all kinds of vegetables, herbs, spices in the menu. It is advisable to eliminate salt or reduce its use to a minimum. The ban includes red meat and refined carbohydrates (sugar, sweets).
The diet should be complete and include foods rich in vitamins A, C, E, group B, rutin, bioflavonoids, zinc and lecithin. Potassium and magnesium are indispensable substances for the health and strength of blood vessels. It is recommended to consume vegetables, fruits, herbs that have diuretic properties.
Most useful products with varicose veins are considered: olives and oil from them, ginger, onions and garlic, berries, citrus fruits, pomegranates, figs, cherries, beets, artichokes, sunflower seeds.
Of the medicinal plants, Kalanchoe, horse chestnut, nettle, nutmeg, ginseng are isolated.
Sugar, buckwheat, potatoes, wheat bread, fatty protein foods, salty and smoked foods, alcoholic drinks, sweet soda are not allowed. From herbs St. John's wort, yarrow are contraindicated.
It is important that the food is warm. To stabilize the work of the digestive organs, it is necessary to observe a diet.
Drinking regime
Unlike traditional medical treatises that recommend drinking more than two liters of water per day for varicose veins, Ayurveda does not consider this point important. The liquid helps to remove from the body not only toxins, but also useful elements: potassium, calcium, magnesium and others. The increased work of the kidneys leads to their dysfunctions.
According to Indian teachings, a person should drink as much as he wants, while the volume of liquid is not important. There are no strict restrictions on drinks, but it is recommended to replace coffee with decoctions of herbs, alternate black tea with green tea.

Mudras (asanas)
Their task for varicose veins is to restore the correct outflow of blood from the lower body, increase the strength and tone of blood vessels, and restore the health of venous valves.
Mudra viparita karani (royal)
considered to be the most effective.
The position with it resembles the classic "birch", but at the same time pull the socks not up, but behind the head, that is, the knees are directed towards the face. Asana should be performed for several minutes daily on an empty stomach or 3 hours after eating.
If the exercise causes difficulty, you can rest your legs on a hard surface (furniture, wall), while lifting the pelvis with your hands. The simplest version of the asana is legs raised up, leaning against the wall, the pelvis on the floor.
Paschimottanasana
To perform it, sit on the floor, straighten your back, keep your head straight. Fold your legs together, press your knees to the surface, pull your socks towards you. While inhaling, raise your arms, pull your head and back up. As you exhale, lean forward, trying to press your chest to your knees. The back and head remain in a straight line. In the final positions, linger for at least 10 seconds, gradually bring this time to three minutes. Repeat 3-5 times.
maha mudra
It is performed in the same way as paschimottanasana, but as you exhale, reach for one leg, press the other bent at the knee with the foot to the pelvis.
With daily performance of mudras, blood circulation in the lower extremities improves, congestion in the vascular bed is eliminated, which slows down the development of pathology and eliminates its manifestations.
Contraindications
There are no prohibitions or restrictions on Ayurvedic practices. However, diseases have specific course, so the approach to each patient is individual and may include contraindications to the use of certain foods, the performance of specific asanas.

According to Ayurvedic theory, varicose veins are compared with the disease of Cold, which has descended into the lower part of the body. Cold - a combination of Vata and Kapha in various proportions - is primarily a lack of blood circulation.
An excess of Kapha can be manifested by viscous "fatty" blood, which is simply difficult to move freely through the vessels, an excess of Vata - insufficient elasticity, fragility of blood vessels. Kapha diseases are treated very well with regular physical activity.
What remedies treat varicose veins, and how:
1. Of the Ayurvedic preparations, Sahacharadi oil is considered a classic remedy, used for varicose veins, problems with blood vessels, increased stress on the legs (for external use).
2. Another recommendation of Ayurveda is to drink 1/2 teaspoon of aloe juice 10 minutes before meals with a pinch of ginger powder and a pinch of cardamom seeds (or the contents of 2 boxes). You can drink for a long time, for 2 months, then take a 2-week break and continue until the symptoms of varicose veins disappear.
Cardamom and ginger will restore blood circulation, ginger strengthens the walls of blood vessels, increasing their elasticity. Aloe will help prevent possible inflammatory reactions (aloe has contraindications). Such a composition acts gently, but effectively, it is allowed for allergy sufferers.
3. Eat foods containing potassium and magnesium, which will improve the elasticity of the vascular wall. These are corn, barley, rice, celery, carrots, parsley, coriander, pomegranate, cranberries, legumes. Strong diuretics are not recommended, as they weaken the kidneys with prolonged use.
4. Often with varicose veins, the blood is thicker than usual, then include blood-thinning foods.
Of the products are useful olive oil, ginger, lemon, orange, pomegranate, fig, raspberry, strawberry, cherry, red currant, garlic, beetroot, artichoke, sunflower seeds.
5. Figs in any form - fresh, boiled in water or milk: with varicose veins, it is recommended to eat as much as possible if there are no concomitant diseases - diabetes, inflammatory diseases of the gastrointestinal tract and gout.
6. Strengthen and tone blood vessels: horse chestnut, nutmeg, ginseng root (for Vata - in small quantities), ginger, garlic.
7. From Ayurvedic preparations - Gotu Kola / Brahmi, Gokshura, Guggul (some varieties, depending on other problems), Shilajit, ready-made Ayurvedic medicines.
8. In order for these venous valves to work correctly, you can perform a very simple but extremely effective exercise: in the supine position, pull the toes of the legs towards the face, and the heels away from you. All. The results are better than when taking tablets and ointments - as it improves natural movement blood flow.
Tips for varicose veins from everyday life:
Always sleep with a cushion or pillow under your feet so that your legs are higher than your head - there is an outflow of blood from the legs, giving heaviness in the morning. When resting - watching TV, reading - not only put your legs higher, but simply lean against the wall at 90 degrees.
You can use a gym ball. When reading, watching TV, putting your feet on the ball turns out very high, better than when placing rollers. Also with this ball you can massage the calves - as if "walking" lying down, clapping the calves on the surface of the sword - a very pleasant activity that gives a gentle massage of the calves and leads to an outflow of blood in the veins.
With veins, an excellent result is the lubrication of the legs with undiluted apple cider vinegar - several times a day. The result will not be immediately, but very noticeable. If there is no problem with thyroid gland then apple cider vinegar is good to take orally. It strengthens the walls of blood vessels.
Nutmeg tinctures work great. It is better to buy it in ground form, since it is impossible to grind huge hard nuts at home. Tinctures are made from nutmeg in vodka, alcohol, oil and are used to lubricate the veins. The same is inside. Grated nuts insist on vodka and drink for a long time. 200 g of nuts per liter of vodka insist 10 days. Drink 20 drops three times a day. By the way, nutmeg (1/2 teaspoon) taken at night with warm milk is a wonderful sleeping pill.
But the best remedy traditional medicine is horse chestnut. An excellent result is given by simple rubbing with an alcohol tincture of chestnut - the veins disappear before our eyes. You need to rub as often as possible. It is better to store the bottle in the bathroom, next to the toothbrush (so as not to forget), and then it will turn out that you will smear and massage the veins at least 2 times a day (do not forget - you need to massage from the ankles up, helping the blood flow up).
Tea tree oil compress: 5 drops of tea tree oil per 1 liter of water. A thermal compress (medical bandage), both cold and hot, is made from several layers of gauze and a layer of cotton wool laid between them. At the same time, the legs should be raised up, the shins should be at least 30-40 cm above the pelvic area, and the compress should be tightly wrapped around the legs with a bandage. The duration of the procedure is 30 minutes, it should be repeated 2 times a day.
Treatment of varicose veins according to Ayurveda with Indian medicines
Eastern medical practice associates varicose veins with cold diseases that have descended on the lower body. Cold is a combination of wind and phlegm, that is, vata and kapha in various combinations. In other words, it is a violation of blood circulation in the body. So, varicose veins are primarily a disorder of the Vata dosha.
It is she who creates a high load, affects the venous valves, elasticity and elasticity of blood vessels. Vata is a dry, mobile and cold dosha. It is responsible for the movement of blood in the body, including the movement of fluid through the blood vessels, veins and tiny capillaries.
Vyana Vata is a subdosha of Vata. It is responsible for transporting oxygen from the heart to the cells of the body through the arteries. Blood moves thanks to the presence of muscles and a network of one-way valves. Fluid flows through the vein, the valves opening and closing in turn to prevent the fluid from flowing backwards.
When Vyana Vata is out of balance, dryness and loss of functionality of the valves and veins develop. The increased pressure inside the blood vessels causes them to expand, the valves cannot fully close, which makes it difficult for the muscles to push blood to the heart. As a result, fluid accumulates in the superficial veins of the legs, which leads to varicose veins. Consider how varicose veins and Ayurveda are related, and find out what medicines to bring from India for varicose veins?
What is in this article:
Causes of varicose veins according to Ayurveda
According to Ayurveda, varicose veins are considered a disease that has mental and emotional causes. So, adherents of alternative medicine believe that pathology develops as a result of human thoughts. For example, such: "I'm stuck, I'm afraid to go forward." In addition, varicose veins of the lower extremities appear to be the result of anger, aggression, irritability, suppression of willpower - and other emotions that have not come out.
Much attention is paid to working with the emotional component. So, if aggression or anger has not left the limit of the body, then nothing good will happen in the future. They will destroy the human body from the inside, which over time leads to disease. Including varicose veins.
Of course, Ayurveda does not suggest expressing negative emotions towards other people, it is quite possible to talk about your feelings in a civilized way. So, harmful emotions leave the body, while not harming other people.
According to Ayurveda, varicose veins have another cause. Varicose veins develop in those patients who are too attached to their goals, tasks and results of their own work. In other words, their thoughts do not exist in the present, but somewhere in the future.
After all, even the bus can be waiting in different ways. Someone stands at the bus stop and peers tensely into the distance, constantly looks at the clock and waits for the bus to arrive. But these actions will not affect the speed of movement in any way, but will only add unnecessary emotional stress to a person. Others just wait, enjoy nature and the world around them.
Why is there so much stress in a person's life? People are always waiting for something. Some are waiting for a salary, others for the birth of a child, others for the completion of the reporting period, etc. In Ayurveda, all these moments are called "binding to the goal." It leads to varicose veins of the lower extremities.
The well-known wisdom of the East about life "here and now" is quite relevant for varicose veins of the extremities.
Imbalance in Ranjaka Pitta
When biological fluid accumulates in the veins of the lower extremities, a secondary factor is isolated in Ayurveda - Ranjaka Pitta imbalance. This can lead to the occurrence of trophic ulcers in humans. Pitta dosha is hot and pungent in nature. It controls hormonal processes in the body, affects metabolism and metabolism.
One of the subdoshas of Pitta is Ranjaka Pitte. It keeps the blood pure. It is found in the liver and spleen. Responsible for the qualitative characteristics of blood, the distribution of nutrients to tissues and cells with the help of it. If Ranjaka Pitte is disturbed, then the blood becomes impure.
She becomes mixed. It contains impurities of digestive toxins. So, the blood turns out to be dense and sluggish. This, in turn, leads to the formation of trophic ulcers of the lower extremities.
In addition, any pathological condition that is provoked high pressure in the limbs or abdomen, can lead to varicose veins. These reasons include:
- Prolonged standing for long period time;
- Obesity;
- Inactive lifestyle;
- Age changes;
- Menopause and other causes.
Varicose veins of the legs are provoked by circulatory disorders (it is regulated by Vata vyana).
Secondary complications of varicose veins - trophic ulcers develop due to toxic impurities in the blood (regulated by Ranjaka Pitte).
Recovery according to Ayurveda against the background of varicose veins
Ayurvedic practices explain most disorders in the human body as a violation of the digestive process. The modern rhythm of life, stress, consumption of harmful products and other factors unbalance the dosha. Every time an imbalance of the dosha is observed, the digestive process resulting in food not being digested properly.
So, undigested food is transformed into a sticky substance with toxic impurities, which is called ama. It is ama that is the source of many pathological processes in the human body. Ayurveda for varicose veins recommends dietary nutrition.
Proper nutrition allows you to achieve a balance of Vata-Pitta. Especially during Vata season, in winter time, it is necessary to eat foods that help balance dry and irregular Vata. To balance it, you need to use the following:
- Olive and vegetable oils.
- Whole grain products.
- Light dairy products (low fat).
- Sweet fruits - they balance the doshas of Pitta and Vata.
- Bean products.
- Fresh greens.
- Vegetables.
Despite the fact that salty foods pacify Vata dosha, the amount of salt in the diet should be reduced. A diet high in sodium has been linked to varicose veins in the extremities. Therefore, it is better to replace salt with spices and spices.
One of the signs of a Vata disorder is constipation: the passage of stool during bowel movements creates excessive pressure, which can trigger the progression of the disease in the patient. Therefore, the diet should contain a sufficient amount of vegetable fiber - at least 30 grams per day. It is necessary to abandon the consumption of refined carbohydrates, red meat - products lead to constipation.
Not only drugs sold in pharmacies, but also blackberries and cherries help to cure varicose veins. The menu should include the following vitamins:
- Vitamin A contributes to the constriction of blood vessels. You should eat carrots, melon, sweet potatoes and greens;
- Vitamins belonging to the B group help to strengthen the strength of blood vessels. The menu includes seasonal fruits, sugar-free yogurt, whole grains, legumes;
- Ascorbic acid normalizes blood circulation in the body, accelerates the healing of trophic ulcers, strengthens the venous walls, and prevents the development of acute thrombosis. Plenty in lemons, parsley and oranges;
- Rutin normalizes blood circulation, is used in traditional therapy for varicose veins. It is necessary to eat rose hips, buckwheat.
Zinc accelerates the formation of its own collagen, which is a good prevention of varicose veins. The component is found in pumpkin seeds and sweet fresh fruits.
The following Ayurvedic recipe accelerates the blood in the veins well: mix 1 kg of honey with 300 g of grated ginger, leave for a day. Eat a tablespoon 2 times a day. Take 2 weeks, after a break you can repeat.
Indian remedies for venous insufficiency
For the treatment of varicose veins in men and women, Sahacharadi oil is used. It is also used for problems with blood vessels, against the background of increased stress on the legs. The oil is used as an ointment - that is, externally. Apply to the affected area several times a day. The duration of treatment is determined individually.
Good reviews in the treatment of varicose veins according to Ayurveda have this method: drink half a teaspoon of aloe juice 10 minutes before meals. Aloe juice must be mixed with a pinch of crushed ginger root and cardamom. You can take such a "medicine" for a long period of time - about 2 months. After a 14-day break is made, the treatment is repeated until the symptoms of the disease disappear.
Ginger and cardamom help to restore blood circulation, strengthen the walls of blood vessels, increase their elasticity. And aloe juice has a pronounced anti-inflammatory property. The composition works gently, side effects do not develop.

FOOD
One of the most effective means in the treatment of this disease - products containing potassium and magnesium which will improve the elasticity of the vascular wall.
Nutrition must include products with mild diuretic properties - these are corn, barley, rice, celery, carrots, parsley, coriander, pomegranate, cranberries, legumes (recommendations are general, check with the list of products recommended for your condition - there may be contradictions). Strong diuretics are not recommended because with prolonged use they weaken the kidneys.

What is Ayurveda and can it cure varicose veins? This question is asked by many - both those who are familiar with Ayurvedic methods, and those for whom this word does not mean anything. Recall that Ayurveda is a system of ancient knowledge in the medical field, which for 5000 years of its existence has helped to maintain the health of billions of people in India. Information Technology allowed to learn about Ayurveda and residents of other countries, and Russia did not stand aside.
Ayurveda treats varicose veins with methods that seem unacceptable and even extreme to us (for example, treatment with vomiting). But Indian Ayurvedic doctors themselves use them in extreme cases. Basically, Ayurveda offers us simple home remedies and treatments. This science teaches people to take care of their health - not only physical, but also spiritual.
Ayurveda explains the emotional causes of varicose veins
When asked how to treat varicose veins in the legs, Ayurvedic doctors answer that first you need to understand the emotional and mental causes of the disease.
It is believed that varicose veins appear where a person has frequent thoughts like: "I'm stuck and I'm afraid to go forward."
In addition, varicose veins occur where there is discontent, emotions of anger and irritation, suppressed with the help of willpower, which have not come out. Much attention is paid to working with emotions. After all, if anger or anger is taken out on other people, then this will also not give anything good and can bring other diseases.
We must learn to express negative emotions in civilized ways so that they do not destroy the body.
What are the signs of illness to watch out for?
The symptoms of the disease are known to many, but we will repeat them again:
- Pain in the legs (more in the evening, in the afternoon).
- Feeling of heaviness in the legs.
- Edema on the legs.
- Skin changes (first excessive dryness, then pigmentation in the form of brown spots).
- Trophic disorders (trophic is the nutrition of tissues, when it is disturbed, non-healing ulcers, eczema appear).
Don't get hung up on the fruits of your labor!
According to Ayurveda, varicose veins occur in those people who are too attached to their goals, the results of their work. That is, their thoughts are not in the present moment, but in the future. After all, even the bus can be waiting in different ways. Most people will stand at the bus stop and stare intently at where the bus should appear. What will it change? Nothing, just add tension! It is better to just enjoy the world around you, consider people, at home, wish everyone happiness.
Why is there so much tension in our lives? We are constantly waiting for something - salary, the birth of a child, vacation, the end of the reporting period. In Ayurveda, this is all called "binding to the goal." This is what leads to varicose veins. The well-known Eastern wisdom that one must learn to live “here and now” is also relevant in this disease.
Therapeutic remedies for dilated veins in the arsenal of Ayurveda
When a doctor treats varicose veins, Ayurveda gives great importance human nutrition. And not only what foods can be eaten for a patient with a certain constitution, but also at what time.
For example, with varicose veins, salty foods can only be eaten from 11 am to 1 pm. You can’t eat too salty food either early in the morning or after dinner, such rules ...
You can and should eat greens, fruits and berries (again, taking into account the individual constitution). Of the vitamins and minerals are very useful:
- vitamin C;
- bioflavonoids;
- B vitamins;
- vitamin D;
- Magnesium and Potassium are very useful;
- vitamin E;
- Zinc.
Useful herbal teas
It is not useful to eat red meat (chicken is possible), dairy products are also under big question. Although this system of healing considers milk to be the most valuable product, it is better not to drink it in case of venous insufficiency. It is also necessary to refuse fixing food, which causes constipation.
What not to do with dilated leg veins
How to treat varicose veins of the legs with standing or sedentary work? Ayurvedic doctors advise moving more often, taking breaks and exercising so that the blood in the legs does not stagnate.
What time to go to bed and when to wake up
Ancient Indian science attaches great importance to such seemingly trifles. It is believed that the body can fully relax only if the regime of work and rest is observed. You need to go to bed no later than 22 hours, and wake up no later than 6 in the morning. So that! To many, this seems unrealistic, because you really want to lie in bed longer, especially on weekends. Yes, and going to bed early does not pull at all ...
But Ayurvedic doctors believe that if this regime is violated for many years, then there can be no talk of any health. On the other hand, if you manage to at least get closer to these standards, then your health will immediately improve.
Yoga exercises that are done for vein disease
With the expansion of the veins of the legs, inverted asanas from hatha yoga are recommended. This is the Plow or Birch pose. At first it will be very uncomfortable to be in the Plow pose, but gradually the body will relax: first the muscles of the neck, then the back, and then the legs.
And now I suggest you see how Dr. O.G. Torsunov treats varicose veins:
According to the latest statistics, varicose veins are now suffering in the world about 20 - 40% of the population that you will agree is not a small figure. The first thing a person notices when varicose veins appear is a small cosmetic defect in the form of spider veins, which often saddens women. But, unfortunately, varicose veins are not just a cosmetic defect, which is easy to close your eyes to, but a disease that must be treated. If this disease is started, then edema, unpleasant and painful sensations, and even changes in skin color and trophic ulcers may appear in the future.
According to statistics, varicose veins affect approximately 25% of women and 10% of men worldwide. Moreover, since blacks and Asians practically do not have varicose veins, in terms of the white population, these figures can be safely multiplied by two, or even three. Not only that, in modern world varicose veins begin to take on the character of an epidemic, so he is also “younger”. If in Soviet times varicose veins were considered a disease of the elderly, then now its peak falls on 35-45 years.
Consider the treatment of this disease with the help of Ayurveda.
This disease in oriental medicine is associated with the disease of Cold, which has descended into the lower part of the body. Cold is a combination of Wind and Mucus (Vata and Kapha) in varying proportions - this is primarily a lack of blood circulation. An excess of Mucus can be manifested by "viscous" "fatty" blood, which simply finds it difficult to move freely through the vessels, an excess of Wind - by insufficient elasticity, fragility of the vessels. Mucus is high Kapha, despite other high Doshas. Kapha diseases are treated very well regular physical activity.
One of the most effective remedies in the treatment of this disease is foods containing potassium and magnesium, which will improve the elasticity of the vascular wall. It is necessary to include foods with mild diuretic properties in the diet - these are corn, barley, rice, celery, carrots, parsley, coriander, pomegranate, cranberries, legumes (recommendations are general, check with the list of foods recommended for your condition - there may be contradictions). Strong diuretics are not recommended, as they weaken the kidneys with prolonged use.
Since blood is often thicker than usual with varicose veins, include blood-thinning foods (also check the list of foods recommended for your condition beforehand - there may be contradictions). Contribute to blood thinning increase in the intake of plain water (not suitable for edema Kapha state) - "Drinking regimen in Ayurveda". Of the products are useful olive oil, ginger, lemon, orange, pomegranate, fig, raspberry, strawberry, cherry, red currant, garlic, beetroot, artichoke, sunflower seeds. from plants kalanchoe, nettle(tinctures inside), chestnut(tincture inside, oil and massage cream - see below). Well disperses the blood in the veins ginger(if there is no high Pitta) with honey and apple cider vinegar (if there are no problems with the thyroid gland): you need to take 300 g of grated ginger for 1 kg of honey. It is also recommended to take 1 tbsp. l. honey and 1 tsp. apple cider vinegar to 1 glass of water 2 tbsp. in a day.
Another recommendation of Ayurveda is to drink ½ s. l. aloe juice for 10 minutes. before meals with a pinch of ginger powder and a pinch of seeds cardamom(or the contents of 2 boxes).
Such a composition acts gently, but effectively, does not overload the body with "chemistry", it is allowed for allergy sufferers and pregnant women (according to some Ayurvedic experts, most believe that it is better to refrain from aloe during pregnancy).
figs in any form - fresh, boiled in water or milk: in case of varicose veins, it is recommended to eat as much as possible, if there are no concomitant diseases - diabetes, inflammatory diseases of the gastrointestinal tract and gout.
Thicken the blood: sugar, buckwheat, bananas, potatoes, white bread, alcohol, sweet foods, fatty protein foods, smoked meats, pickles, carbonated drinks, yarrow, St. John's wort.
Strengthen and tone blood vessels: horse chestnut, nutmeg(see below), ginseng root (for Vata - in small quantities), ginger, garlic.
From Ayurvedic preparations - Gotu Kola/Brahmi, Gokshura, Guggul(some varieties, depending on other problems), Shilajit, ready-made Ayurvedic drugs (only some names are given, without considering the specific situation, since there are contraindications, not all drugs are suitable for certain conditions).
Problems with the legs should be considered not only as an imbalance of Doshas, but also as insufficient blood circulation (blood flows poorly from the legs back to the heart), the walls of the veins of the lower extremities are thin and weak, the venous valves are poorly developed or destroyed due to inflammation of the veins. Ayurveda alone can't do it. A massage is desirable, which is aimed at stimulating blood vessels and deep kneading the muscles like a sports massage. Cycling, swimming, exercises (imitation of cycling), capillary gymnastics according to the Maya Gogulan method, exercises aimed at increasing endurance and strengthening muscles (only not strength, but cardio loads) are the best means. If everything is done correctly, then the muscles will be the "holders" of the vascular walls. In order for these venous valves to work correctly, you can perform a very simple, but extremely effective exercise: in the supine position, pull the toes of the legs towards the face, and the heels away from you. All. The results are better than with tablets and ointments, as the natural movement of blood flow improves. You can find the video "varicose veins" by the rehabilitation doctor Petr Popov. It shows well how to do this simple exercise.
From the Japanese system of general recovery - rise on your toes and lower yourself on your heels with force - 50 times. Do it as often as you can. Activates the kidney channel (urge to urinate immediately). In Japan, the gymnastics of the elderly is also known - this is walking on the heels, often walking back and forth with hammering the heels into the ground. Walking backwards may not always be convenient. Walk normally, just plant your heel hard. The results will be noticeable soon. You can walk like this on the way to work, to the store - almost invisible to others. 15 minutes a day is enough for the kidney channels to function better. Improvements are especially noticeable after performing this exercise with varicose veins. It is clear that when walking with "heels" shoes must be appropriate.
Also, from Eastern healing systems - light tapping of calves with bamboo sticks (this is not the common so-called "Creole body massage with thick bamboo sticks"), just a light tapping of calves from the bottom up. Climbing stairs (several openings per day) - helps open the valves. Replace taking the elevator with walking. If you work in a high-rise building, march a little during your break. Take every opportunity to properly load the outflow valves.
Common recipes from everyday life:
- Always sleep with a cushion or pillow under your feet so that your legs are higher than your head - there is an outflow of blood from the legs, giving heaviness in the morning. When resting - watching TV, reading - not only put your legs higher, but simply lean against the wall at 90 degrees. You can use a gym ball. When reading, watching TV, putting your feet on the ball turns out very high, better than when laying rollers. You can also massage the calves with this ball - as if “walking” lying down, flapping the calves on the surface of the sword - a very pleasant activity that gives a soft massage of the calves and leading to the outflow of blood in the veins.
- With veins, an excellent result is the lubrication of the legs with undiluted apple cider vinegar - several times a day. The result will not be immediately, but very noticeable. If there are no problems with the thyroid gland, then apple cider vinegar is good to take orally. It strengthens the walls of blood vessels.
- Nutmeg tinctures work great (nutmeg is sold in the spice section of grocery stores and on the websites of Ayurvedic companies). By the way, nutmeg, taken at night ½ tsp. with warm milk - a wonderful sleeping pill.
But the best remedy of traditional medicine is considered horse chestnut. From chestnut (inflorescences, fruits and leaves are weaker) make decoctions, alcohol tinctures, oil tinctures. Apply inside and outside. Chestnut is sold in the herbal section of health stores, but very rarely (or through online stores). Chestnut is included in all known ointments and creams for varicose veins. Ointments of large pharmaceutical companies are quite expensive and not available everywhere. From home-prepared oil solutions and water decoctions, an excellent cream for veins is obtained, which can always be prepared at home. Those who did it are delighted with the horse chestnut inflorescence cream.
The technology is simple: a chestnut is bought in an online store, infused with oil, a thick water infusion is prepared from part of the inflorescences, wax and glycerin are added, everything is kept in a water bath, stirring). Recommended proportions - pour chestnut inflorescences with any vegetable oil 1:10, that is, 1 tbsp. a spoonful of chestnuts for 10 tablespoons of oil, leave for 12 days. Then boil in a water bath for 30 minutes. A thick infusion is prepared from the same inflorescences and used in the preparation of the cream as a water base. It would be nice to add vitamin K in liquid form to this cream, but it is almost impossible to buy. You can add a few drops to this cream essential oil cypress and juniper (best). Essential oils of rosemary, mint also work well (remember the minimum doses of essential oils - everything is measured in drops). There are a lot of recipes and videos for making cosmetic creams on the Internet (don't ask me - I'm not a cream specialist, I only gave directions - how to proceed). The main thing is to observe the proportions of the oil and water bases. Well, and the rest of the technology. If the condition is critical, and a person really needs it, he will find chestnut inflorescences and cook the cream.
An excellent result is given by simple rubbing with an alcohol tincture of chestnut - the veins disappear before our eyes. This is not such an “oily” activity as applying a cream. You need to rub as often as possible. It is better to store the bottle in the bathroom, next to the toothbrush (not to forget, and then it will turn out that you will smear and massage the veins at least 2 times a day (do not forget - you need to massage from the ankles upwards, helping the blood flow upwards). Proportions of the prepared tincture - by eye, the more concentrated (within reasonable limits) - the better.Infuse for 2-4 weeks.It is good to take chestnut oil with chestnut oil: dilute 40 g of chestnut oil in 2 liters of warm water (40°C). with a woolen cloth for 1 hour Compresses are also good.In 1 liter of warm water (40°C) dilute 30 grams of chestnut oil.Soak gauze in this composition and wrap your feet for 1 hour or even overnight.
- Compress with tea tree oil: 1 liter. water 5 drops of tea tree oil. The duration of the procedure is 30 minutes, repeat 2 times a day.
- With varicose veins, honey-salt application also works well. Mix 1 tbsp. l. coarse salt 200 g honey. Apply the mixture on the skin of the legs with a thin layer in places of diseased veins. Cover with parchment paper (not recommended to use cellophane film), wrap with a bandage. Keep the compress for 2 days, then take a break for 1 day. The course of treatment is 10 procedures. Take a break. Repeat if necessary.
Self-massage for varicose veins
(possible with chestnut cream)
Lie down with your feet above your head. Stagnant blood will drain from the veins, and self-massage will be more effective. Gently embrace the palms with closed fingers, stroke the shins from the ankles to the knees - 8-10 times. The next step is rubbing. Rub the shin with the base of your palm in a circular motion. Take a good walk 8-10 times on the lower leg from the bottom up. Now stroke the shin again, but harder - as if you are squeezing out excess blood from the veins. Position your palm so that thumb was on one side of the lower leg, and the other four on the other. Remember how dough is kneaded? In exactly the same movements, carefully knead the muscles of the lower leg from the bottom up 3-4 times. Finally, pat your legs.
Self-massage and qigong exercises also work well (there are many videos on the Internet on this topic).
Outwardly, the addition of copper helps blood circulation very well. In "grandmother's" recipes, it is advised to take nickels of a certain year. It's impossible to find them. Finding just a copper plate, and then successfully putting it under the foot, is also not an easy task. What can be done is to make a flexible device from wire. Copper wire of different diameters is sold in hardware stores. From this wire, you can wind (with a snail, from the middle) a plate that looks like an insole, or wrap a finished insole around. It is clear that you won’t go far with such an insole, so you can use these insoles only at home, you can put them in a sock at night.
It must be remembered that Ayurveda works well for preventing problems. And when the problem has already manifested itself (for example, in the form of varicose veins), then in such cases official medicine works faster with its medicines (such as various gels for veins). Those. you can quickly remove the symptoms with these drugs, and after that, select a diet and drugs that correspond to your condition.
It must be understood that a one-time cure should not be expected. Almost all the time it will be necessary to maintain the tone of the vessels of the legs. It's like brushing your teeth in the morning. In the same way - daily lubrication of the veins with the above means, periodic wraps and compresses. And with beautiful legs you will live a lifetime!
One of the main causes of varicose veins is psychosomatic. Usually legs are an indicator of an internal state of confidence. Not only in himself personally, but in any area - a person, as it were, is unstable on his feet in this area (mentally). Problems of personality suppression can come from childhood - from authoritarian parents. Also, the dominant partner in the family, less often in the professional sphere, can be a psychosomatic cause. The feeling that nothing can be done is crushing and the veins that have popped out are like a protest, problems “climb” out.
Confident people do not have varicose veins. Just look at successful managers - they always have smooth legs (they are self-confident). Met in life - was insecure person, stuffed by loved ones. Health problems (varicose veins are on the mandatory list). And suddenly - a business went very well, or a very successful marriage of an insecure woman. A short time passes - but there is no varicose veins. The man seems to be saying I felt confident on my feet. Problems don't come out of me anymore". Neither Ayurveda nor traditional medicine can cure psychosomatic illness. As soon as the problem is removed from the human brain, the disease disappears from the physical plane.
NEED TO REMEMBER that varicose veins cannot be cured once and for all. But it is possible to keep the veins in very good condition. True, this is - almost until the end of life - exercises, rubbing. Like a morning toilet. Took a shower, rubbed the veins. And until evening. In the evening - the same thing. Therefore, rubbing all sorts of things should be stored next to toiletries. Bottles with infusion - in a conspicuous place in the kitchen (otherwise you will forget).
Varicose veins are often associated with hemorrhoids.
And now I will reveal to you big secret — without any products, drugs and rubbing, you can keep your veins in a normal state - with the help of Yoga.
What to do with varicose veins?
A little theory to understand how valves work:
All veins in the body are called volumetric vessels - at the same time they contain about 70% of all circulating blood. Veins are highly tensile and act as blood reservoirs. If in some organs and tissues an increase in blood supply is required, for this the tone of the venous vessels increases and part of the blood, as if “squeezing out” from the veins, moves to other parts of the vascular bed.
The ability to stretch and makes the veins a weak link in the vascular system. In the end, repeated stretching can lead to the fact that the venous wall is overstretched, deformed, and eventually varicose veins occur.
Varicose veins (VV) is a general weakness of the venous walls in different areas of the body. This is varicose disease of the lower extremities, and pelvic organs, and hemorrhoids.
Genetics also play a role connective tissue, which is part of the venous wall. A decrease in the content of collagen in it leads to excessive extensibility and insufficient strength of the venous wall. Aggravate the development of the disease for a long stay in a standing or sitting position, the lack of regular physical activity.
Pregnancy and childbirth sharply enhances the processes of venous stasis: an increase in the uterus increases pressure in the abdominal cavity, which leads to compression of the venous vessels and deterioration of the venous outflow from the lower extremities, pelvic organs and abdominal cavity. Constipation also increases pressure in the abdominal cavity. The venous circulation of the small pelvis in women, in addition to pregnancy and childbirth, is greatly influenced by contraceptive methods (the presence of an intrauterine device, interrupted sexual intercourse, lack of orgasms).
At a certain stage in the development of varicose veins, dysfunction of the venous valve apparatus plays an important role. Valves allow blood to move in only one direction - towards the heart, preventing it from moving back.
If the vein expands excessively, the valve leaflets move away from each other and begin to pass blood in the opposite direction, that is, relative valve insufficiency is formed. The reverse flow of blood through the valve leads to even greater stagnation of blood and expansion of the vein, the expansion of the vein - to even greater insufficiency of the valve. A pathological vicious circle is formed in which the situation supports and aggravates itself.
Further, structural changes in the components of the vascular wall and the irreversible formation of varicose veins are formed.
What mechanisms improve venous outflow and will prevent the development of varicose veins? What causes blood to move towards the heart, especially from the legs and pelvis - after all, in this case, the blood has to overcome the force of gravity? It is clear that the valvular apparatus does not allow blood to move in the opposite direction, but what makes it go to the heart?
There are several mechanisms for venous return.
First is muscle pump(primarily the lower extremities). Every time we take a step, the muscles of the lower legs and thighs contract, the veins that are in their thickness are compressed and the blood is squeezed out along the valves, that is, towards the heart. Second venous return mechanism sucking action of the chest during inhalation. During inhalation, the pressure in the chest decreases, which leads to the suction of blood into large veins located near the heart, thereby improving the return of blood to the heart from the peripheral veins. This mechanism is enhanced by the use of technology ujjayi pranayama on inspiration, as this technique contributes to an even greater drop in pressure in the chest during inspiration ( short description pranayama see this post: Ashtanga).
Best for varicose veins viparita karani mudra (asana). Only in this position, the tension of the veins is much stronger and heals (with systematic implementation).
Mudra is so good that it is called "Royal". The description of its action on the body (in addition to helping with varicose veins) and its implementation takes up a large volume and will be posted in the next post.
When performing other asanas, asanas that aggravate venous congestion and limit the normal mechanism of venous return should be avoided. It is recommended to limit standing asanas with prolonged fixations, as they turn off the muscular pump of the lower extremities. Fixation of standing asanas should be more than 10 seconds.
In practice, these can be variations based on Surya Namaskar or Chandra Namaskar using any standing asanas in dynamic mode with very short fixations. This approach will activate the muscular pump of the lower extremities and will not block it.
The performance of sitting asanas that limit blood flow in the veins of the lower extremities (virasana, padmasana, vajrasana, and the like) is also limited. some experts recommend the above asanas, but only with short fixations (no more than 20-30 seconds) and alternating with inverted asanas performed for 30-60 seconds or more.
It is assumed that a short restriction of venous blood flow in a sitting asana slightly stretches the muscle elements of the vascular wall, which causes a response increase in their tone, after which an inverted position is performed, which promotes active outflow of blood and volumetric unloading of the veins. Fixations in asanas, which significantly increase pressure in the abdominal cavity - first of all ardha navasana(boat pose) and the like.
Asanas on the abdominal muscles should be performed only in dynamic mode, it is good to combine them with Pranayama Ujjayi on inspiration, further improving venous return due to the work of breathing.
It should also be remembered that a number of deep deflections on the abdomen (such as dhanurasana and shalabhasana):
also greatly increase intra-abdominal pressure and are not recommended for WB.
Inverted asanas, combinations of inverted positions with dynamic movements of the feet (rotation, flexion-extension in ankle joint, run uddiyana-bandha(abdominal lock) in inverted asanas.
The venous system of the small pelvis with varicose veins, hemorrhoids is beneficially affected by twisting variations of inverted asanas, such as parshva sarvangasana (shoulder stand with lateral twisting of the body) and the like.
They work well on opening valves and pumping blood through the veins. Adha Mukha Svanasana, mahamudra.
Perform several times a day. It takes several minutes, very tones the veins, opens the check valves for the reverse flow of blood through the veins.
Abdominal manipulations ( uddiyana bandha and nauli) are powerful vacuum techniques that create negative pressure in the body cavities and therefore increase venous return.
The most powerful vacuum technique is madhyama-nauli(contraction of both rectus abdominis muscles) (description of techniques not given).
To enhance the suction action of inhalation, full breathing should be introduced into practice and the Ujjayi technique should be mastered while inhaling.
Using full breath and ujjayi while inhaling can be effectively used in the simplest exercises for beginners and older people:
1. Out of position tadasana(mountain pose) while inhaling, we perform ujjayi and raise our hands up (switching on the suction action of the chest on inhalation) and at the same time stand on our toes (switching on the muscle pump of the lower extremities), exhale without ujjayi, we fall on our heels, hands down.
2. Inhale with ujjayi we enter urdhva mukha shavanasanu(dog, face up), on exhalation without ujjayi transition to adho mukha svanasanu(dog, face down). Description can be found in the note: Asanas. At the end of exhalation uddiyana bandha(abdominal lock) - to unload the venous system of the small pelvis. the pelvic region is located above the level of the heart, the venous outflow is facilitated both by gravity and by vacuum action Uddiyana bandha).
Performance uddiyana-bandha in adho mukha svanasane(dog, face down) to unload the veins of the small pelvis can be performed repeatedly throughout the entire complex.
In general, the practice of yoga for varicose veins is predominantly dynamic in nature with a large number of standing asanas, but with minimal fixations in time.
Abdominal manipulations are actively used, including those performed in various versions of inverted asanas. Can be used throughout the course ujjayi on the inhale ujjayi on exhalation is not used or is used in the mildest version.
Sitting positions for performing breathing and meditation practices are selected in such a way that venous outflow does not suffer, that is, without pinching the legs, using a pillow, brick or chair.
Capillary gymnastics has an excellent effect on blood vessels - the Japanese technique of Nishi, which Maya Gogulan retells well in her books and video lessons.
"I cured varicose veins once - and that's all" - this will most likely not happen. But yoga therapy allows you to stop the further progression of the process and keep the veins in good shape. To physical activity don't forget to add the procedures described above.
(description of the valve mechanism is taken from A. Frolov)
The usual set of physical exercises for varicose veins
Traffic - The best way get away from the disease that haunts many people - chronic venous insufficiency. Physical exercises useful both in the initial stages of the disease, and with existing complications.
Alternative medicine is a method of treating various diseases, the effectiveness of which has not been scientifically proven.
Non-traditional methods include:
- Naturopathy;
- Homeopathy;
- Mud treatment;
- Bioenergy;
- Ayurveda;
- ethnoscience;
- Tibetan medicine;
- Tourmanium ceramics Nuga Best;
- Yoga;
- Tibetan qigong gymnastics.
The methods listed above are used during non-traditional treatment of varicose veins. They differ from other treatment methods in their availability, simplicity, less time and money, but at the same time excellent efficiency, some of them even contribute to improvement general condition organism.
Ayurveda - This is Eastern medicine based on Hindu philosophy, currently used in various fields, including the treatment of varicose veins.
Varicose veins in Indian medicine is considered a disease of Cold, and Cold is Wind and Mucus mixed in different quantities, which indicates poor circulation. After all a large number of Mucus is manifested by viscous, thick blood, and an excess of Wind - by inelastic vessels.
For the treatment of this disease, it is recommended to use foods high in potassium and magnesium, which make the vessels more elastic. Such products include: legumes, nuts, apples, corn and others. Even in the diet you need to include products that help thin the blood: radish, ginger, lemon, cabbage.
Of the drugs for varicose veins, Ayurveda recommends: Gotu Kola, Gokshura, Guggul, Shilajit. But before you start taking them, you need to consult a specialist, since they are prescribed depending on the patient's condition.
Also in Ayurveda there are many simple recipes to combat varicose veins. Here is some of them:
- Tincture based on nutmeg. 100 g of ground nuts, pour a bottle (0.5 l) of vodka and leave for a week and a half. Take internally for a long time.
- Horse chestnut tincture. 10 peeled chestnuts need to be ground in a coffee grinder and pour 200 g of vodka. You can take the tincture inside, 30 drops each, and also rub problem areas with it.
- Compress based on tea tree ether. 3 drops of essential oil per half liter of water. The compress is made of gauze and cotton wool, superimposed on problem areas. The duration of one session is 30 minutes.
Qigong exercises against varicose veins
Qigong is an ancient Chinese gymnastics, with the help of which all processes in the human body are improved. Qigong gymnastics treats varicose veins, it provides both a whole range of exercises aimed at combating this disease, and a massage technique.
Consider a few exercises: Take the pose of an archer. We put one hand behind the lower back, and the other on the knee. We perform light springy movements. We repeat the exercise 10 times on each leg. Do a side pull. Again we take the pose of the archer, only this time we set the leg a little to the side and forward. We smoothly transfer weight from one side to the other. Having reached the lowest point, we spring a little.
The result of such exercises will not be long in coming. After the first workout, the heaviness in the legs will go away, the swelling will go down a little. Over time, blood circulation will normalize and stagnation will go away.
Qigong massage for the treatment of varicose veins: Close your palms in your fingers and lightly stroke them from ankle to knee 10 times. Now rub the shin with the base of your palm for one minute. Repeat the first exercise, but with more intensity. Thoroughly knead the muscles of the lower leg from the bottom up several times. We complete the self-massage by performing the first exercise in a light form.
Tourmanium ceramics (Nuga Best) for varicose veins
Tourist ceramics is an innovative discovery of the Korean company Nuga Medical. It has unique properties that fight the causes of varicose veins.
Thanks to the volcanic rocks that are part of tourmaline, ceramics emit long waves of infrared heat similar to the radiation of the human body. Therefore, the body does not show resistance to the waves of tourmaline ceramics. Thus, infrared heat penetrates the body, expands the capillaries, and also promotes the formation of new capillaries.
Mud treatment of varicose veins
With varicose veins, the walls of the veins narrow and become less elastic, which provokes the appearance of blood clots and blood stasis. Therapeutic mud for varicose veins activates blood circulation. It also contains calcium, sodium, potassium and magnesium ions, thanks to which an electric field appears on the skin, which improves the functioning of blood vessels, capillaries and arteries. Thus, the venous system relaxes, and blood flow through the vessels improves.
Also, the mud is rich in organic salts, which take away excess water, while eliminating swelling. Treatment of varicose veins with mud should be carried out in courses. The number of courses depends on the degree of intensity of the disease.
Homeopathy to combat varicose veins
Three basic principles of this technique: To rid a person of the disease with the help of the forces of his own body, namely, to force all processes in the body to self-regulate.
This principle is the most basic, it lies in the fact that like should be treated like. It is not necessary to treat a separate organ. To completely get rid of any disease, it is necessary to influence the whole organism as a whole.
