Here are the names of the sights of Sharjah that you should definitely see with your own eyes and capture in photographs:

- the largest in the UAE, accommodating three thousand worshipers. The building is new, built in the 20th century, but made in the traditional Arabic style interspersed with modern architectural elements. Booklets describing the sights of Sharjah indicate that it is better to come to the mosque in the evening - at this time the backlight turns on, which makes the building look like a fairy-tale palace.
Firoze Edasseryseven meters Monument "Koran" on the city square - one of the main attractions of Sharjah, a photo of which is in any tourist guide. This monument is a symbol of the faith of Muslims and a source of pride for the townspeople.

Visit Al-Hish fort- a two-story fortification made of coral, stones and adobe, which is located in the very center of the city. Previously, it was the residence of the local ruling family, and today it has been turned into one of the city's most popular museums.
In addition, Sharjah has many interesting museums that you can visit as part of excursion programs.
Each of us, of course, dreams of the sun and the sea, which are fully represented here. Well-maintained snow-white beaches and azure waters of the Persian and Oman Gulfs will not leave anyone indifferent. But the lounger on the beach soon gets bored, and we realize that spiritual food and entertainment are not alien to us. We frantically search for information about local entertainment and shopping centers, local attractions, etc.
For those who like to “light up” at discos, slightly dispersing the blood with alcohol, or “have a good time” in a restaurant or bar after sunbathing during the day, you should choose another emirate for relaxation. - the strictest emirate in terms of morals and laws. There is a dry law and a ban on discos and other similar entertainment events. But for history buffs, there are huge opportunities for self-education, and for vacationers with families or companies who prefer a healthy lifestyle, there are places where you can spend time interestingly and profitably. A huge number of carefully guarded ancient monuments that tell about the formation and struggle of the people of this region, 14 museums of various directions, parks - this is only a small part interesting places Sharjah. We will try to give you some information about the places you can visit while spending your holidays in Sharjah.
Architecture
A story about this city will not make any sense if you do not describe its appearance. This is a beautiful, green city with a stunning lagoon, where two and three-story mansions side by side with high-rise modern buildings that harmoniously complement each other. All this alternates with ancient, carefully restored buildings and a huge number of mosques, raising their spiers high. All this is done in Islamic traditions, and the flavor of the East is felt in every lane. Everywhere you feel some kind of completeness, which you feel when you enter the house of a good owner, who does everything with high quality, which means for a long time.
Here you can visit. It was built by the king as a gift to the emirate for its strict adherence to the tenets of Islam and is the largest in the Emirates. At the same time, it can accommodate up to 3,000 believers, which in itself is a record.
You can also admire the highest in the world, which is located in the middle of the lagoon and depicts a stream of oil escaping from the ground. So the locals expressed their gratitude to this source of energy, which brought prosperity and well-being to the region. He is especially handsome evening time with the backlight on.
Shopping and entertainment centers and markets
There are huge shopping centers at the service of shopping lovers, with their own entertainment centers, both for children and adults. It has been noticed by our observant tourists that prices for many goods are lower here than in similar ones, which often becomes the decisive factor in buying this or that thing.
Well, to visit the East and not visit the markets is an unforgivable mistake! Modern: the Central Market (received among tourists the name "trailers") and. Ancient: (with a roof of palm branches - barasti), the Fish Market and, amazingly beautiful, finished with rare varieties of marble and granite - and many more large and small markets scattered around the city. Here you can buy almost everything - from gold and silver jewelry to an old nail. It must be remembered that the Arabs are arranged in such a way that they are ready to give the goods to the buyer, who knows how to bargain and stands his ground to the end, naturally within reasonable limits, sometimes to the detriment of himself. With what it is connected - it is not clear. Apparently, a good interlocutor is more than money for them.
parks
Very close, literally a 20-minute drive from the center, is the unique Desert Park complex, which includes the Museum of Natural History, and. For a fairly affordable price, you will plunge into the Arabian nature with your head, and it is unlikely that a day will be enough for you to see all the attractions of the park. As a result, you cannot avoid a second visit here. Everything is arranged in such a way that you are captured by a genuine interest in everything around you.
In you can have a good time with the whole family or company. There is everything for this - special lawns for picnics, attractions and swimming pools for children and adults, a football field and a mini-zoo.
For gourmets who love a variety of national cuisines, just a paradise. A huge number of cafes and eateries that you will find in any corner of the city will satisfy the appetite of the most fastidious of visitors.
It's not worth talking about. Their directions are so diverse that it makes no sense to recommend any of them - the choice is yours. The same can be said about the Sharjah Exhibition Center, where numerous exhibitions and fairs of various themes are held.
This is not a complete list of places worth visiting while relaxing in Sharjah. We organize our leisure time ourselves and the saying: “A smart person never gets bored” is just as relevant here as it is at home.

There are many interesting things in Sharjah, even without alcohol it is not boring here.
Video. What to do in Sharjah
A bit of history, a bit about the markets, and a few words about sports and leisure.
If you want to see and get to know the United Arab Emirates from the other side and completely and completely immerse yourself in the real Arab culture, the way it should be in the right sense, then you should go to the emirate of Sharjah. But first, find out some of the nuances of such a trip in order to avoid difficulties.
What is Sharjah?
Sharjah is the emirate of the United Arab Emirates, which, in fact, is the exact opposite of Dubai. It is not intended for entertainment tourist trips, but on the other hand, having come here, you can learn the Arab culture and get to know it better.
This is a real cultural capital of the state, in which there are many attractions and interesting places. And everything is different here: girls with almost completely covered faces walk the streets, everyone behaves correctly and calmly.
Sharjah is located almost next to Dubai, the border is only a road junction, actually divided into two parts. By the way, in the event of a traffic accident, the police of both emirates will arrive at the scene of the accident at once. Sharjah includes several exclaves such as Khorfakkan, Kalba and Dibba Al Izn.
Climate
The climate of Sharjah is quite mild, and for this tourists love this Emirate very much. So, in winter the temperature usually does not fall below 10-15 degrees, even at night. But in summer it can be unbearably hot here, sometimes the thermometer shows 40 degrees, and this is in the shade! So if you decide to go here during the warm season, be careful and hike in the morning or evening hours so as not to get sun or heat stroke.
How to get there?
Getting to Sharjah is easier, faster and more convenient, of course, by plane. international Airport This emirate is located just a 15-minute drive from the center, and minibuses run regularly to the city, but if you wish, you can use the services of taxi drivers, although such a trip will cost more.
Where to stay?
Hotels in Sharjah are always happy to welcome guests, and since the UAE is considered the richest state, where any tourist will find a luxury holiday, most of them are categorized as 5 stars. But it is worth noting that in terms of the number of tourist accommodations, this emirate lags far behind Dubai.
Only about 10 hotels are located on the shores of the Persian Gulf, three are on the shores of the Gulf of Khaled, the rest are located in the city, which is not very convenient, because you have to somehow get to the beaches.
Transport
Surprisingly, there is no public transport in Sharjah, and it is not needed, since all residents are wealthy and travel mainly by private cars or taxis. And you will have to follow their example: rent a car (but not everyone can afford it) or use the services of taxi drivers. By the way, there are no meters in the cars, so always negotiate the cost of the trip in advance so that you are not deceived.
How to behave here?
If you decide to visit Sharjah, then first find out some rules of conduct in this Emirate, as their non-compliance may be punishable. Here are the most basic ones:
- Pay special attention to your appearance namely clothing. She should be as modest as possible, like all Arab women. Knees and shoulders should be closed, especially for the fairer sex. In addition, sportswear or beachwear is considered bad taste.
- AT in public places, which include taxis, it is forbidden to kiss and, in general, to somehow show their feelings.
- Drinking alcoholic beverages in any public place is strictly prohibited. You can use them only in restaurants or bars, that is, where they are served.
- In no case do not flirt with the locals, but rather, do not talk to them at all and do not even look at them, as this can be perceived as an attempt to show liberties. The morality police work here and for any violation of moral standards you can simply be expelled from the country.
- If a tourist decides to take a photo, he must be extremely careful and prudent. It would seem that there is such a thing? But photographing women is strictly prohibited. Men can only be photographed after their official consent. Filming in public places (including restaurants or shops) is allowed only with the consent of the manager.
- Smoking in public places is strictly prohibited. They take the health of the local population very seriously.

In short, Sharjah for me is a kind of anti-Dubai, without alcohol, revealing clothes and hookah cafes. But that's not the point. Finding what to see and where to go in Sharjah on your own is not difficult. Today I will tell you about those interesting sights of this town that impressed me and revealed the incredible beauty of the third largest emirate.
Sights of the city of Sharjah in the UAE - where to go and what to see first
Sharjah rightfully bears the status of the cultural capital of the country. Unique museums, galleries and theaters make it especially popular, not to mention modern architecture and the traditional oriental souk market, where you can wander from stall to stall for hours in search of an original souvenir. This emirate borders on Dubai, but life and hotels are much cheaper here. I really fell in love with Sharjah with its sights, and I will introduce you to the most interesting of them.
city architecture
Sharjah looks very attractive, as for me, due to modern architecture. In this city, popular among tourists from all over the world, one of the most beautiful high-rise buildings stands out - a building located on the shores of the Khalid lagoon. It is a real decoration of the city landscape thanks to the balconies with an unusual round shape. The skyscraper combines a residential complex with an entertainment complex, including the famous Grand Buhairah cinema.
Sharjah Al Hish Fort
Among the many modern buildings found in the city center Sharjah Al Hish Fort, which stands out ancient architecture. Stones, corals and adobe were used as the basis for the construction of a two-story fortification. In 1820, the then ruler, Sheikh Sultan bin Saqr Al-Kazimi, erected the original structure, but already in the early 1970s, the fortification was partially dismantled. Only a single tower testifies to the former greatness, which gave the name of the square on which the Al-Burj Fort is located, which in Arabic means “tower”.
The city is especially popular Sharjah Blue Market Al Markazi, which was also called the Central Market and the Gold Market. I was very struck by this building: the main part of the building is really painted yellowish and in the rays of the sun it looks like it is covered with gold. Round mosaics on both sides of the central entrance, made in the traditional Islamic blue color, brought their zest to the facade of the building. The two wings of the market are connected by pedestrian bridges. One part of the building will delight with antiques, carpets, gifts and electronics, the other with gold, precious stones and jewelry. And all this in 600 stores.
Did you know? The blue market in Sharjah has become popular as tourists like to take photos near this attraction the most.
No less attracted by their architecture are such buildings:
- Sharjah Government Building and Palace of Culture on the central Cultural Square;
- Al Durrah Building in the Khalid Lagoon area;
- National bank building with blue mirrored walls;
- Palace of the educational complex "City of Universities" near the International Airport.
Monuments of the city
Emirates Unification Stele
One of the original monuments that I came across in Sharjah - Emirates Unification Stele, established in honor of the unification of all emirates. The high obelisk is decorated with seven half-open oysters with pearls inside, each representing one of the emirates. The top of the obelisk is decorated with the main golden pearl, symbolizing the unification of the Emirates. In addition to this monument, the open area has fountains, flower beds and benches for relaxation.
Monument to the Quran
The fact that Sharjah is the center of Islamic culture in the UAE helped me understand 7-meter monument to the Koran. It is presented in the form of an open book with several pages of the Koran written in fine gold Arabic script on Arabic. It has long been considered the main attraction of Sharjah.
At the exit from the city of Sharjah along the Al Dhaid highway, the majestic Stele of Sharjah. A huge monument was erected in 1998, when the city received a special status from UNESCO - the cultural capital of the entire Arab world. This monument immortalized this momentous event.
Also, try to get familiar with Flag Island in the center of Halin Lagoon.
Museums of the city
Archaeological Museum
In the city center looked into Archaeological Museum, which tells about the history of the emirate and the region, its civilization and cultural development from ancient times to the present. The museum is divided into 4 parts, each of which covers its own period of history. The first of them introduces the Stone Age, the second - the Bronze Age, the third - the Iron Age, the fourth - a flourishing civilization. The most interesting object of the museum is the coin mold used to print the currency of Alexander the Great himself.
Art Museum
Behind the market visited Art Museum, founded in 1995, with 68 showrooms. I really liked each of the eight collections personally assembled by Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al-Qasimi. Nearly all items in the collection are XVIII century and presented in the form of paintings of the Arab East, which were written by European Orientalists. As it turned out, I visited the museum, which is considered one of the largest art galleries in the Middle East.
Was very impressed with the visit Al Mahata Old Airport Museum. In the museum you can find several sections of various subjects. From the layouts of the first section, I learned about the aircraft that landed at this airport at one time or another. But in the section of old inventions, I got acquainted with the technique invented at the beginning of the 20th century.
I think the following museums are worth visiting:
- Maritime Museum;
- House of Al Nabuda;
- Museum of old cars;
- Desert Park;
- Science Museum.
Religious buildings
Al Sharq MosqueNot far from the coast, I liked a beautiful mosque Al Sharq. Relatively small size gives the mosque compactness and special comfort, and two slender minarets - elegance and expressiveness. Near it is a fountain with beautiful evening illumination.
I could not pass by another mosque - Al Emam Ahmad Bin Hanbal located on the central square of the city. It was built in honor of the outstanding scientist and theologian Ahmad ibn Hanbal. He is considered the founder of the school of Islamic jurisprudence. In addition, among Muslims, he is a great imam, one of the greatest experts on the traditions of Muhammad.
Against the background of the architecture of Islamic and Muslim mosques, the Armenian Church of St. George the Illuminator. The local community of Armenians achieved the construction of this church in 1980 with the help of Father Oshakyan Choloyanu and since then has become a true spiritual center of the Armenian community. This small, bright building, designed in the standard architectural style of Caucasian temples, is easy to spot thanks to its triangular domes and modest towers.
I also advise you to pay attention to such shrines:
- Mosque Corniche near the Radisson Blu hotel;
- Al Majaz Mosque on the coast of Khalid Lagoon;
- Church of the Apostle Philip, Al Yarmouk district;
- Al Qasba Mosque at the intersection of Al Kasba Canal and Al Khan Street;
- Al Noor Mosque on the embankment, 3 kilometers from the city center.
What can a tourist see in Sharjah in 1 day
King Faisal Mosque
It seems that one day is not enough to enjoy sightseeing. But, choosing what to see in the UAE and staying in Sharjah, I advise you to spend the day in such a way as to see the most interesting and impressive.
- Set aside enough time to walk around the popular Pedestrian area of Al-Qasbah where there are many interesting entertainments.
- Thanks to the Eye of the Emirates ferris wheel, take the opportunity to observe not only the sights from a 60-meter height, but also the dancing 100-meter fountain in Al Majas Park.
- Visit one of the most expensive mosques - King Faisal Mosque presented to the city by the head of Saudi Arabia.
- Near the mosque you will find 7-meter monument to the Koran.
Where to go and what to see in Sharjah with children
Al Montaza Park
There are many places in Sharjah where you can go with your child. Here is some of them:
- Al-Montaza Park located on Flag Island in the city center. Since the territory of the park is huge, I advise you to go around it on a special transport - a car, a boat or a train - and decide on the attractions: extreme slides, swings or a water park.
- Sharjah Aquarium. Your child will enjoy 250 species of inhabitants of the shores of the Oman and Persian Gulfs, including predators: sharks, moray eels and dangerous rays. Its feature is the illusion of walking on the seabed.
- Discovery Center. It is a variety of entertainment. Achievements of science, principles of technology, building a house, determining the future profession - this is only part of what you can learn and how to entertain a child.
Video overview of the sights of Sharjah
We bring to your attention, the official video of the administration for commerce and tourism development of the emirate of Sharjah. Which will most colorfully introduce you to local attractions.
Sharjah is a rather strict emirate, but its interesting sights dilute this factor. Did you recognize my favorite places, can you recommend anything else? I look forward to your suggestions in the comments.
In you can find holidays for every taste, and this is not just a tourist stamp. Different regions of the country differ in their own lifestyle, and therefore it is easy for a person with any preferences to choose the ideal place to spend a vacation here. - the strictest emirate in terms of laws and rules of conduct, but at the same time - the cultural center of the state. Answering the question of what to see in Sharjah, local guides usually recommend a variety of museum exhibitions, theater performances and architectural sights. Shoppers will find hundreds of large and small shops, markets and shopping centers where absolutely everything is sold - from spices to diamonds.
TOP 10 attractions in Sharjah
Al Kasbah
South of the Khalid Lagoon you will find the local Arbat - Sharjah's pedestrian area, called the Al Kasbah. It is customary to walk along the embankment with the whole family, slowly, enjoying ice cream, refreshing drinks or the strongest oriental coffee, ordering it in a street cafe. Al-Kasba restaurants offer visitors to try the best dishes of Arabic cuisine. Don't even count on a glass of wine! Use alcoholic beverages in the emirate of Sharjah is prohibited by law.
Popular attractions of the Al Kasbah are the Ferris wheel and singing fountains. At night, the promenade is spectacularly illuminated and looks especially picturesque.

Ferris wheel
The full name of the Sharjah ferris wheel is Eye of the Emirates, but locals, tourists and guides call it the Big Wheel, which means "big wheel". Specifications attraction fully justify its name. From the largest wheel in the region in Sharjah, you can look at the panorama of the city and its surroundings. The height of the "Eye of the Emirates" is 60 meters, and at the same time more than 300 people can be accommodated in 42 glazed cabins.

Museum of Islamic Civilization
In 2008, the Museum of Islamic Civilization opened in the building of a mosque in Sharjah, quickly rising to one of the highest positions in the attendance rating among the city's museum expositions. Two spacious halls and four galleries offer visitors a collection of exhibits that tell about the history of the emergence and development of the Islamic religion in the country.
On the stands and shelves of the museum you will see ancient manuscripts, including the sacred book for Muslims, the Koran, rewritten by medieval masters.
