Novorossiya special department in contact. Ukrainian myths about Russian special forces Kyiv pulls fresh forces to Donbass
The Ukrainian information space was filled with panic reports about “Russian special forces” operating on the territory of Novorossiya, which occasionally replace the victorious reports of the military leaders of the Ukrainian army about the “destruction” of another “GRU-FSB special forces group”.
Let's try to figure out if the authorities are again "hiding something" and whether there are new soldiers of the "unknown war" in Russia.
In general, the current leaders of Ukraine are far from being the first to explain the causes of military defeats by some external and insurmountable factors.
We will not go far for examples - the Wehrmacht generals in their memoirs also liked to write off the reasons for the failures of the German army in the battles near Moscow and near Stalingrad on the excessively cold Russian winters. True, bashfully silent, why parts of the Wehrmacht lost battles on Kursk Bulge which took place in the summer of 1943. Apparently then the heat prevented them from defeating the Red Army in a decisive battle.
But back to modern Ukraine. The myth of “Russian special forces” allegedly taking part in Ukrainian events was born back in the days when most Ukrainians were twiddling their thumbs in response to warnings that everything that happened on the Maidan in Kyiv could easily turn into a civil war, and harmless the actions of the “children”, which consisted in throwing Molotov cocktails at police units and setting car tires on fire, found understanding, sympathy and support from the townsfolk who watched this bloody performance.
According to the versions of a number of Ukrainian media, dated January-April 2014, Putinpersonallysent OMON units to Ukraine, which, dressed in the uniform of the special unit of the Ukrainian police "Berkut", bludgeoned on the Maidan unfortunate hipsters, creakles and football fans. Ukrinform went even further in the development of entertaining Ukrainian mythology and Russian participation in the suppression of the Maidan: according to their version, Putin himself (the president of Russia, if anyone is not in the know - a specially protected person), again self personallyfenced with a rubber club on the backfighters for cookies from Nordland and European integrationwhile using judo techniques.
Let's leave Ukrainian journalists on the conscience authenticity this information. The President of the Chechen Republic Ramzan Kadyrov answered them best of all: if the Chechen riot police really were in Kyiv, then the protesters from the Maidan and the garbage would have cleaned up after themselves ...
It would be something to laugh at, in a word, if the Ukrainian sensationalists they did not go further and after the start of the “Anti-terrorist operation” in the south-east of the country they did not fill the information space with reports about Russian special forces units allegedly taking an active part in hostilities in the territory of Novorossia. Although specialists, at least a little familiar with the activities of special forces, such inflamed news cause only sly smiles, there are those who completely accept them on faith. Moreover, they are often voiced by persons related to the Ukrainian law enforcement agencies. The US State Department has already begun to look for traces of boots of Russian special forces on Ukrainian territory, and Russian soldier mothers tightened the usual since the Chechen wars song with familiar motifs about the “mortuaries littered with corpses” of unfortunate conscript soldiers.
So are Russian units involved in the events taking place in Ukraine or not? In order to understand this issue, you first need to understand what is Special Forces and what he actually does. Andrey Vladimirovich Zagortsev, an officer of the Russian special forces, who is already familiar from the article about the exposure of the Ukrainian myth about “captured paratroopers”, will help us answer this question. Reading his stories based on real life, real, and not the mythical special forces, including its combat use, even a layman far from the army can easily come to the understanding that fighting that the militias of Novorossiya are leading have nothing to do with the tactics and practice of using special forces.
Samih special forces in the Russian power structures there are several varieties that are very different in their functionality and possible application. It is clear that the police special forces as part of the Ministry of Internal Affairs have one task, the units of the Central Security Service of the FSB are completely different, in the Ministry of Justice they are third, and as part of the armed forces they are fourth. At the beginning of the 90s, in the power departments of Russia there was a general fascination with the creation of various kinds of “special forces”, which, in fact, often simply were not such, since the prefix “ specialist-” was accepted, for “coolness” to add to the name of almost any more or less trained units. In the First Chechen War, special forces units of almost all the power structures of Russia were really used. This was due, on the one hand, to the catastrophic shortage of personnel trained for combat operations in the armed forces and internal troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, on the other hand, the use of elite special forces in combined arms combat, for example, during the assault on Pervomaisky in January 1996, led to the fact that they when using the main tasks and functions “outside the profile”, but instead of ordinary army units, they suffered serious losses and did not complete the task.
So what does the army special forces do and are the actions of the militia of the south-east of Ukraine similar to the actions of special forces?
Here we will only talk about special units of the armed forces, since similar units in other structures, for example, in the FSB and the Ministry of Internal Affairs, have tasks that are very far from actions against military units of a mock enemy, respectively, their combat and operational-service training is “sharpened” for the specific specifics of the tasks performed tasks - for example, under the detention of especially dangerous criminals. You can read about how special forces operate from the already mentioned Zagortsev: in the first Chechen company, his unit performed highly specialized pinpoint tasks, basically avoiding clashes with large militant formations as much as possible. The battle of special forces against a large enemy formation is rather a forced situation that occurs if, when performing the main task, a special unit collides head-on with enemy forces and cannot avoid an open battle. In such situations, it is very likely that a small and lightly armed group of a special forces unit, which has limited ammunition and maneuverability, due to the lack of vehicles and heavy weapons, will simply be destroyed - since hand-to-hand combat techniques, underbarrel grenade launchers and a small number of anti-tank weapons - it is practically useless to use against artillery, mortars or a large number of enemy armored vehicles. Functionally, army special forces operate behind enemy lines, conducting reconnaissance, disabling military communication facilities, capturing headquarters, airfields, destroying weapons and ammunition depots. This is no particular secret, since the actions of the army special forces have been repeatedly described by many authors who had different time attitude to his activities, starting from the beloved by the liberals "Viktor" Rezun-Suvorov, ending with excerpts from the functionality and tasks published on veteran sites that well illustrate the specifics of the use of special forces units.
Nothing like deep raids, captures of headquarters, targeted neutralization of representatives of the command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, large-scale destruction of transport infrastructure and communications in the rear of the forces conducting an “anti-terrorist operation”, according to reports by the same Ukrainian media, were not observed in the south-east of Ukraine during the hostilities. The militias conducted combat operations not through guerrilla tactics and deep raids on enemy territory, but by trying, if possible, to adhere to combined arms tactics and mobile defense - holding settlements and key transport infrastructure facilities. In principle, the tactics of military operations of the Novorossiya militia fit perfectly into the “classic” actions of irregular paramilitary formations, whose members have military training received during compulsory military service. It practically did not differ from the actions of the rebels in the Transvaal during the Anglo-Boer War of the early 20th century, well described in the history of military art, or the relatively successful opposition of the paramilitary forces of Dzhokhar Dudayev to units of the regular Russian army and the Ministry of Internal Affairs in 1994-1996. It would seem that here spetsnaz FSB-GRU, whose actions are widely highlights in the Ukrainian media?
And most likely, despite the fact that the current Ukrainian politicians and generals of the Armed Forces of Ukraine simply ashamed recognize actual defeat , which was inflicted on them by militia forces, which are staffed by ordinary Donetsk and Lugansk inhabitants who received military training back in Soviet times, or as part of the Ukrainian army in the 90s, when the armed forces of Ukraine were engaged not in politics and the sale of property, but in combat training. And write off the losses presence third force, whether General Frost or the mythical Russian special forces, which, however, have already been destroyed several times by airsoft fans, are much easier and simpler than looking for answers to the questions of who and for whom is actually fighting in the South-East of Ukraine.
In conclusion, it is worth adding that as part of the militia of Novorossia, people who were very different in their “origin” fought and are fighting. Among them are those who at different times served in special forces, and not only Russian or Ukrainian ones.
For example, a Serb by nationality, Nikola Perovic, has been fighting in Novorossiya as a volunteer since June of this year. He actually served in the special forces. Only not Russian, but French. He served in Afghanistan and has military awards. But for some reason, the Ukrainian media, based on this fact, are not at all in a hurry to look for traces of the French special forces sent personally by Francois Hollande to the territory of Novorossiya.
It would be interesting to know, but in fact, why?

Statement by the Foreign Minister of the DPR on the absence of a proper response from the OSCE to the use of UAV drones in Donbass
The Ukrainian side continues to cynically violate the ceasefire, using the most various ways. Recently, the armed formations of Ukraine have mastered terrorist tactics - the use of UAVs for the purpose of combat destruction of ground targets.
In November alone, 7 facts of the use of shock UAVs were recorded: 4 times in the Donetsk direction and 3 times in Gorlovsky. At the same time, cases of the use of strike unmanned aerial vehicles against the civilian population of the Republic have become significantly more frequent, and facts of injuries of civilians as a result of precisely such use of them have already been recorded. The UNM DPR took appropriate measures to protect civilians and objects, thanks to which it was possible to prevent the use and destroy 6 Ukrainian UAVs in the past month alone.
Moreover, some of their illegal actions were recorded by members of the enemy armed formations on video and published in in social networks and the media in the context of the so-called victories of the Ukrainian army. In their messages, members of the armed formations controlled by Kyiv convince that these are supposedly the positions of the people’s militia of the DPR, but the videos clearly show that Ukrainian UAVs were destroyed on the territory of the Republic civilian objects and residential developments.
We believe that such criminal violations of the requirements of the Minsk agreements on the ban on the use of military aviation and UAVs by Kyiv are largely the result of the lack of a proper response from the OSCE SMM. We are confident that soon these and other illegal actions of the Ukrainian authorities and the Armed Forces of Ukraine will be given an appropriate assessment.

"They have been on the front for 9 days and they have nothing to eat" - a Ukrainian blogger spoke about the starving UAF members
They have been on the limber for 9 days and they have nothing to eat, only leftovers from their predecessors. And everyone who speaks badly about the army, they are “Kremlin agents”, maybe it’s time to start talking about problems already?” Ukrainian blogger Mikhail Ukhman told how soldiers of the 34th battalion of the 57th brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are starving at the front end in Donbass.
According to him, the soldiers of the 34th battalion of the 57th brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are in terrible conditions on the front line. Earlier, the blogger published a post on Facebook on behalf of the officers, where he spoke in detail about the reduced norm.
Mikhail Ukhman said that the soldiers have been "on the front" for 9 days, they have nothing to eat. They were not provided with rations, and even earlier they cut the norm. At the same time, the blogger noted that everyone who criticizes the Ukrainian army is immediately rushed to be called “Kremlin agents”. However, according to Uhman, it is worth starting to talk about the problems, because the situation has gone too far.
“Maybe it’s time to turn on the adequacy?”, The blogger calls. He remembered how the General Staff promised to feed the soldiers according to NATO standards and give them new Fords. According to Ukhman, only the soldiers of the National Guard in Kyiv receive all this. The rest have to survive by eating the crumbs shared by the volunteers. All that the 34th battalion has now is “the remnants of its predecessors,” the blogger noted.
Armed Forces of Ukraine used unknown ammunition in Donbas

According to the fighter, the ammunition is non-standard with aluminum submunitions.
Author Rex-Leo & *Starry* Sails asked a question in Society, Politics, Media
Who does not know do not climb. The Special Department and Counterintelligence SMERSH, are they the same thing or not? and got the best answer
Answer from Talgat Kulibayev[guru]
Actually, it's not the same. After the reorganization in 1943, there was a division of functions in SMERSH. A special department was engaged in the search for "spies" directly in the units and formations of the Armed Forces. They looked for former "encirclement", "Vlasov", deserters who were in the occupied territories, and then joined the ranks, as the Soviet Army advanced. Spies were looked for in this very environment. Another part of SMERSH was engaged in its direct work - the elimination of fascist military formations, their quasi-nationalist formations (such as the Ukrainian OUN and Nachtigal), and scattered "gangster" groups of nationalistic Lithuanians, Latvians, Estonians, Belarusians, Ukrainians, and the Polish Craiova Army. Being formally in a single administrative whole, they had a certain autonomy. But, starting in 1946, the former SMERSH members, heavily diluted with "specialists", were themselves subjected to persecution. As I remember, one of these "active" Smershevites was one of the three creators of the novel "John Green - a Green Leaf", published by Grivadiy Gorpozhaks. Rummage in the internet, and maybe you will find his book of memoirs about that period of life. I will refrain from comments. The book is quite candid.
Answer from User deleted[guru]
SMERSH (the abbreviation is composed of the initial letters of the well-known slogan "Death to spies!") - the Main Directorate of Counterintelligence "SMERSH" of the People's Commissariat of Defense (NPO) of the USSR. Transformed from the Directorate of Special Departments of the NKVD by the Decree of the Council of People's Commissars of the USSR of April 19, 1943. The same Decree created the SMERSH Counterintelligence Directorate of the NKVMF of the USSR and the SMERSH Counterintelligence Department of the NKVD of the USSR.
A special department is a military counterintelligence unit that was part of the Soviet army. Special departments were created on December 19, 1918 by the decision of the Bureau of the Central Committee of the RCP (b), according to which the front and army Chekas were merged with the military control bodies, and on their basis a new body was formed - the Special Department of the Cheka under the Council of People's Commissars of the RSFSR. Subsequently, with the formation of special departments of the fronts, military districts, fleets, armies, flotillas and special departments under the provincial Cheka, a unified centralized system of security agencies in the troops was created. On February 3, 1941, special departments of the NKVD were transferred to the people's commissariats of defense and the navy. On April 17, 1943, special departments were reorganized into counterintelligence agencies SMERSH (“Death to Spies”) and returned to the NKVD.
After reading, I think there will be no questions.
Answer from tt[newbie]
Yes, it's the same. During the war, the special department was really called SMERSH, i.e. death to Spies.
Answer from Alex Dan[guru]
Special departments still exist. Name changed
Answer from Andrey Valentinovich[guru]
Smersh was created during the war (approximately 1943 I can’t say more precisely), specifically for the fight against saboteurs. The full name is “Death to Spies”.
A special department - Primarily created by the same NKVD to fight internal enemies of the state ("dissenters", "undermining the foundations", etc.), existed in the Armed Forces of the USSR almost until the last moment. The lowest level, as a rule, were political officers.

This amazing text is worth reading in its entirety. Volunteer militia Yevgeny Sergeev writes on his VKontakte his memories of "Batman", in whose group he spent half a year. As a result, this turns out to be a text about the entire LPR and the orders in it, and not just about Batman. Judging by Sergeyev's page, he returned home to Russia only a month ago, under New Year. The RRT that is often referred to is Batman's "Quick Response Team".
Sergeev, apparently, is not a fake or a propaganda fiction, real person with real VKontakte, with a long line of posts, photos and videos from Lugansk and Slovyansk, dating back to May. He fought for half a year against the Ukrainian side, and now, quite sincerely, he continues to be for "Novorossia" and against the "dill". Its text speaks for itself. It was published in five parts on his VKontakte (the last part was published three days ago and "To be continued").
Evgeny Sergeev, State Bureau of Investigation "Batman". About Alexander Bednov
At the moment, this person has two diametrically opposite poles when assessing him as a leader and as a person. This is understandable - his violent and sudden death still matters both politically and morally, and the actors in Novorossia and idle Internet onlookers and viewers split into two opposite camps - the first because of their ambitions and in terms of proximity to him during his lifetime, the second in accordance with the laws of the behavior of the crowd, always greedy for the low and primitive pleasures of any public bloody spectacle, from bullfighting to gladiator fights and boxing matches, inclusive. Some always cheer for the Reds, while others always cheer for the Blues...
In addition, I believe that my thoughts about him are also of the value that I personally knew him, served under him for more than six months and, without being part of his inner circle, I am spared the temptation of both unbridled praise and selfish, momentary and opportunistic pouring mud on him. And in general, I, apparently, am the only one of the entire former RBI "Batman" who somehow owns the word and has the opportunity to quite clearly convey his observations to him.
So, let's start with its genesis.
Since spring, Bednov was originally a member of Mozgovoy’s group and was not in the very first roles there, but then there was such a nuisance as an attempt to kill Mozgovoy with his, let’s say, comrades in arms - he was invited to a meeting at the Regional State Administration, arrested and put in a basement in expectation of imminent and inevitable death from a "heart attack". But the times were still simple then, and maybe people were more decisive than now, but Mozgovoy was eventually released, as eighty of his fighters surrounded the Regional State Administration and, under the threat of a burnt offering of such a representative building, demanded his release. (Note, apparently, for this reason, Bednov was not arrested at the Regional State Administration an hour before the murder - they feared a repetition of the May events).
Lesha, don't be a fool, immediately retired to the north of the region to the Lisichansk region, away from such nimble and ardent "heroes of Novorossia", but he needed someone who would take the risk of action in Lugansk itself, and that's where Batman appears, who takes over the functions of representing Mozgovoy's interests in the capital. (And as we can see, this was his fatal mistake, since Mozgovoy is alive, but Bednov is not). He is allocated 12 people, they are given access to Russian sponsors and to the arsenal. And here all that organizational talent of Bednov is manifested, which so effectively helped him create the State Bureau of Investigation. The main fighting force of the militia is Russian volunteers, and he is doing everything to direct part of their flow to the GBR. He puts Abkhaz at the Severny checkpoint and negotiates with all those smugglers who illegally transfer volunteers across the border in the Donetsk Rostovsky-Izvarino region to send these volunteers to him. Remembering myself and my guys, I now understand that it was a brilliant move. We crossed the border at random, we had no information about the active resistance groups, and we didn’t care what group we ended up in - we were only interested in the fight against fascism and the desire to avenge Odessa. But this was not the case in Lugansk itself - the field commander who had more "bayonets" would then ultimately determine the situation in the LPR. Therefore, they competed quite fiercely among themselves for the Russian "cannon fodder".
At first, the Bednov group was a motley and inexperienced gang that did not quite understand with which enemy it decided to measure strength. The first and only battle in which Bednov personally took part was a counterattack on dill in the Metallist area on June 17, 2014. On my first day of service for the benefit of Novorossiya. Our group did not have time to take part in the battle, since we arrived at the location late in the evening, and only closer to midnight, after the end of the clash, Bednov lined us up, still dressed in civilian clothes, and having said a very long and thoughtful speech (he generally liked to speak speech), accepted us into the unit. But according to the surveys of the participants, an unsightly picture opened up for me. All thirty people went to the battlefield in cars, right in front of the dill they began to jump out of them and shoot in all directions. As I understand now, Barbie, a 57-year-old elderly Russian militiaman from Krasnodar, saved them from complete defeat, who pressed the dill to the ground with the fire of his double-barreled ZU-23, put directly on the "jihadmobile" - on the pickup truck of a Japanese jeep. The dill, caught in the open field by such a destructive "Caesar's chariot", abandoned their weapons and fled, but then their snipers and machine gunners stepped in, and here it was time for the GBR to retreat in panic, abandoning their weapons and the wounded. So Barbie, wounded on the battlefield, was abandoned by his friend "Novoross" (I don't remember the call sign of this bastard), for the reason that "If I began to drag him, they would also kill me." Barbie radioed that he was wounded and asked for help, but to no avail, the militia had already fled. The dill surrounded him and finished him off with a shot in the heart, and disfigured his face, cutting off his left ear. This bastard did not suffer any punishment. Moreover, he showed off later in the arrangement, proudly prancing around the barracks, hung with as many as three pistols.
As I have already noted, from that very battle, Bednov avoided not only personally commanding the battlefield, but, over time, even simply visiting the "hot" points of the defense of Lugansk. When some staff members invited him to personally visit our positions near Smiloy in October 2014, he prudently evaded such a dubious honor, while specifying that he was "Not a fool." He really was never a fool, since there was a very high probability that he would not return from there, from this cauldron that was deadly for us and for the dill ....
The shock of the first battle showed everyone, not only Bednov, but also his emerging entourage, that the time for jokes and slogans had passed forever, and that there was a very high probability of their very quick and painful transformation "into pieces of human meat and into pieces from torn people" (I quote verbatim what I then heard from Janek, one of his closest favorites). This was the reason for the sharp split of the GBR into two parts that did not communicate with each other at all - into a combat, front-line core and into the so-called "Special Department".
These were people who hardly ever saw even a dead dill, let alone a living one (with the exception of those wounded prisoners whom we transported to our hospital). They were engaged in all that mouse movement, which is now imputed to Bednov. Naturally, requisitions, expropriations, all kinds of squeezing, trade in humanitarian aid and racketeering became the main activity of these "military militias". In addition, judging by some circumstantial evidence, we can talk about cash received from the relatives of those who had been incarcerated for their release, as well as Bednov organized his own hospital, which at first glance is a very necessary and noble thing, if you do not take into account the fact that, according to rumors, he put all the pharmacies in the eastern part of Luhansk under his control, and where, with the help of this very hospital, he had the opportunity to donate all the medical humanitarian aid that came from Russia for direct sale. But, of course, Tigra, the head of the Novorossian hospital, can say more about this.
Complete freedom of hands, a lot of free time, closeness to the "body", a sense of imaginary security, often wrung out business-class cars, suddenly acquired wealth and complete impunity in relation to the life and death of peaceful Lugansk residents drove these unfortunate bastards crazy. It was necessary to see the attitude of these wise men who settled down and settled down towards us, towards the soldiers' "rabble". Full of arrogance and even some kind of pitiful contempt for our idealistic desire to stand up for the women and children of Donbass, at first they behaved down to us, they did not consider themselves to be people and kept their distance from us.
Then, when many of us rightfully gained fame for our military deeds, they began to fear and fawn on us, realizing that after all that we had gone through, for us, desperate and hardened people, it would not be difficult to deal with this a hedonistic and decomposed community of cowards and poseurs who by all means avoid the front and its refreshing "charms" - to step on one foot, pull on the other, and say that it was O.
And this desire grew more and more. I, as a Russian, understood that sooner or later, but the force on which Novorossiya relied and is relied on - Great bourgeois Russia, will not allow so cleverly fiddling with the right to property and the rights of citizens in the territory adjacent to it. In order not to set a seductive and contagious example for their own fellow citizens. And that sooner or later, but these excesses will be both correctly assessed and correctly resolved. Another thing is that a helpful fool is always worse than an enemy...
However, Bednov would not be interesting to others and would not be so hated by his enemies if he could only be characterized as a stilted and primitive operetta villain. This personality was as contradictory and complex as the very process of the formation of Novorossia itself is complex and contradictory. He, and this is undoubtedly, is a true hero of the defense of Lugansk, and he will forever remain one of the founding fathers of Novorossia, and in the future, a free and fraternal Ukrainian state to us.
This man had both the talent and the will to create the most effective combat militia unit in the LPR, the Rapid Response Group. Starting from scratch, making mistakes and acting, acting again and making mistakes again, he gradually, not immediately, but gathered around him a team of fighters and managers on whom he could fully rely. He always looked to the future and never shelved it. Whatever he conceived or promised, he systematically brought it to life. Back in June, at the formation, he promised that the SBR would definitely have its own "fuel oil", that is, its own auto and armored units, and despite all the difficulties, he achieved his goal. The organization of the already mentioned hospital was also carried out swiftly and professionally, and this saved the lives of many, very many, both the militias and the civilian population, and even the captives and mutilated in battles dill patriots.
In terms of supply, the GBR units have always been very favorably distinguished from the rest of the militias - "Dawn", "Don", the Seventh checkpoint, Leshih and Lisov. Against their background - ragged, dressed in motley semi-civilian underwear, eating almost half-starving, and armed with "karamultuks", units of the RRT always looked like some kind of space landing rangers - with the most modern weapons, in a new, brand new uniform, with personal protective equipment, transport and communications. The food supply has always been on top - we had everything and always. Moreover, we have always shared numerous surpluses of food, cigarettes and medicines with the civilian population and with our ragged and hungry comrades. Bednov himself disbanded the three-platoon division of the GBR combat unit, which had shown itself to be ineffective. He dismissed people who were unsuitable for combat work from command positions, and switched to the system of manning the unit with separate combat detachments under the command of dashing and desperate father commanders. Names such as Kamaz, Ratibor, Knyaz, Orel, Kinder and Plastun are the true face of the "Batman" GBR. It was they who got and are still getting the military glory of this unit. They instilled in the units the strictest discipline, the true spirit of soldier brotherhood and disinterestedness. Selfless faith in the rightness of the all-Russian cause and readiness for sacrifice. We, front-line soldiers and soldiers, have never dared to raise a hand against any of the peaceful and unarmed, to insult or humiliate anyone, to deprive someone of their property or livelihood. All our horizons and prospects were limited only by a deadly, dangerous struggle, a rude and ennobling soldier's life, cheap cigarettes and precious male friendship. Each of us was happy being there - in the RBI unit, and this is also the direct merit of "Batman". He constantly emphasized in his evening speeches on verification that we are the best, that we are clean, that we are not engaged in spin-offs and robberies, that we are at war, that we are for a simple people abandoned by all governments and gods, that our duty is to help people, and not to multiply their already incalculable sorrows and unresolved misfortune. At these moments, his blue, very expressive eyes lit up with some kind of inspiring and soft light, and we all believed that, despite all the mouse excesses that were happening around us, still wearing the bat of the unit on the sleeve was a big and binding honour. We believed, getting ready again for another trip and a trip to our everyday and bloody work, that there was no one but us to defend Novorossia, that our cause was just, that all these misunderstandings were a manifestation of civil war and social revolution and that they will certainly be overcome, all those responsible will be punished, and our sacrifices will not be in vain. In addition, the glory of the RBI was already running ahead of itself. Many fighters, not only from Lugansk, but also from the DPR, aspired to the SBI in order to fight and fight for real. And in Luhansk itself, Lugansk residents themselves have already begun to respectfully decipher the abbreviation SBI as "State Security of the Republic."
By the end of the summer of 2014, Bednov "threw" Mozgovoy and himself tried on the Napoleonic epaulettes of an independent field commander. As can be seen from the results political activity, he did it clearly in vain and at the wrong time. But he was like that, he wanted everything at once. The loss of such a patron as Mozgovoy, nevertheless, over time, exposed all his vulnerability and isolation from other centers of power in the LPR. At first, when the fate of Novorossiya hung in the balance, it was not so obvious and deadly, but after the situation stabilized, his "precocity" and his ungrateful behavior towards his former patron showed his competitors that one should not believe any of his oaths, not a word from him.
His ambitions inevitably dragged him there, to the dirty and broken crossing between Lutugino and Georgievka...
The general public, of course, remembers that shameful August day in 2014, when almost the entire leadership of the Luhansk People's Republic and paramilitaries close to it panicked, in a huge column in luxurious executive cars stuffed with cash currency and jewelry, leaving the population to the mercy of fate and remaining faithful the idea of fighting to the end of the militias - ended up on the territory of the Russian Federation. It seemed to them, after the complete encirclement of Luhansk, that the game was over and it was time to "pack bags and bring them to Moskalivka."
Bednov and Plotnitsky, unlike them, did not. And for this alone, you can forgive a lot of these people for their courage and composure in those fateful days. They stayed in Lugansk and fought to the end.
This funny incident not only deprived the defense of Lugansk of its eight hundred defenders, but removed Bolotov and his entire team from the political arena. And "this is what started the war," as Thucydides wrote...
Bednov swung at the unthinkable, from the point of view of the main players in the LPR - he decided to become the Head of the Republic.
No sooner said than done. The Public Movement "Liberation Front" is immediately created, signatures are collected, its activists are recruited from the SBI fighters, lists of candidates for deputies of the People's Council are compiled, posters and campaigning for Bednov begin to be hung out, work is carried out with the population. San Sanych is increasingly appearing in the television and Internet space. On bravura and full of sweet hopes, I sometimes got the impression that if Bednov himself had not wanted to become President of the Republic, then the hangers-on and sweet-voiced flatterers and sing-alongs who were crawling before him would have dragged him to the throne almost by force. The headquarters of the State Bureau of Investigation was then full of joyful and pathetic fuss. Persons close to His Imperial Majesty were already clearly burdened by the unpretentious and modest, almost Spartan atmosphere of the former student hostel. They were already dreaming of velvet carpets and polished oak parquet of the Presidential Palace, where they, in the noble and representative silence of deputy and ministerial offices, would wisely and fruitfully decide the fate of financial flows and a sea of spilled humanitarian aid. And only a real trifle - the time allotted for voting and for counting the votes cast for them, stood between them and their dazzling future.
Naturally, the electoral process was not without incidents.
It should be noted that interesting fact, that just before the entrance to the RBI camp, - at the Machine Institute, from morning to evening, relatives of those detained by the Commandant's Platoon, another monstrous product of the dark side of Bednov, were crowded (We will talk about him later. Let's leave, so to speak, the sweetest, for dessert).
And in the midst of all this large crowd of Lugansk residents, exhausted by uncertainty and fear for the fate of their loved ones, proudly and arrogantly towered a thick theatrical billboard, completely hung with bright election posters campaigning for Bednov and for his "Liberation Front". One must think that it is difficult to imagine a more effective PR ... Direct, so to speak, and visual agitation among voters ... But this is so, some features of madness and surrealism, not without internal amazement, noticed by an ordinary machine gunner ... And it’s true, - after all, all these people, one way or another, were waiting for the Liberation from Bednov ... their relatives from the basement ...
However, this whole undertaking came to nothing. Dreams were shattered, and again, for the umpteenth time, faith in Humanity was lost ... When trying to submit documents for registration of a social movement, Bednov was shown his place - registration documents were not accepted, but during the most solemn and long-awaited procedure for their delivery they opened fire on representatives of the SBI right in the department of the Ministry of Justice of the Government of the LPR, injuring three people.
Well, what can we say?
Direct military democracy in action:
Bullet in response to the submitted application.
Thermobaric charge of a flamethrower as a visa.
A directed land mine as a form of a non-verbal negative response from a higher authority to a signed petition.
Nine-millimeter "olive" pistol "Fort" in the left temporal lobe of the brain, as a sanction for an overly developed speech apparatus.
Do not go, my dear readers, to the elections to the representative bodies of the LPR.
You will be more whole.
To the members of the Special Department, as artistic and vulnerable personalities and “not going to appear where they shoot” (I am giving verbatim what one of them told me, a front-line soldier, with amazing frankness and shamelessness. You can assess the degree of their “chosenness” and conceit) , first of all, a brute and regular armed force was needed, not close enough to Batman to be seriously shared with her, but, at the same time, so smeared in all sorts of excesses and squeezes that, on occasion, she will keep his mouth shut and meekly do all the necessary dirty work. The commandant's platoon became such a force. His initial task was to protect the base of the RRT, maintain order and discipline on the territory. However, at the very moment when this "combat unit" was born, neither the Machine Institute itself, nor the neighborhoods adjacent to it shuddered or shuddered. And it should. For this "bell" rang, first of all, for them ...
At the foundation of the building of discipline, as in memorable times when laying pagan temples and temples, it was decided to bring a human sacrifice. This never-before-seen honor fell to a local militia with the romantic call sign "Italy". Then the "Novorossians" did not dare to kill the citizens of Russia, but after the death of the Russian guards of Batman, this unfortunate restriction has now been finally lifted by the fact of their impunity and cowardly silence.
Italy recently moved his wife and children to Russia, and, apparently, he experienced this very much as his personal tragedy. Many began to notice his growing inadequacy and the emerging features of a nervous breakdown. And he, in the end, took place. Two weeks after the family left for emigration, he arbitrarily left the position and returned to Lugansk, where he began to drunkenly "build" some teenagers drinking on the street. There he was detained and disarmed. Who and how decided his fate, I can’t say, but a few days later he was taken to the former base of the SBI, they let him smoke the last cigarette, and after that the masked executioner executed him by shooting him point-blank with a pistol. According to rumors, his corpse was either thrown into the river, or buried in one of the many mortar craters. So a true patriot of his country, who did not run away, like most Donbass residents, abroad and did not hide to justify his cowardice for his wife and children, who stood up in arms to defend his native city, was arbitrarily put to death, despite the fact that in his hands there was no human blood, no female chastity, not a single hryvnia squeezed out and appropriated.
I think he deserved anything but death.
Having educated himself in this way, the Commandant's platoon enthusiastically set about fulfilling its direct duties. The "basement" that existed before at the amateur level began to acquire the features of a professional and qualified assembly line. The victims of his dungeons were mostly civilians caught and abducted on the streets of Luhansk, owners of vehicles, houses, cottages and apartments they liked, as well as representatives of the Luhansk business community who were subjected to “special processing” and had the imprudence to stay and continue working in the besieged city. It must be understood that here the least of all was arbitrariness and tyranny. People were detained precisely and in order to constantly have a source of free labor at hand. In other words, they needed slaves.
Naturally, due to the Slavic nature, these were not prisoners starved to death and deprived of fingers and ears of the notorious Caucasian zindans. Compared to them, the conditions of "work" and release were much more humane.
The prisoner who fell into the hands of Chechen, Luish, Phobos and Maniac was treated almost amicably with a thick plastic pipe and feet, after which he went to the damp and hospitable dungeon of the basement of a student hostel, hard work washing away the shame of owning an expensive car, the heavy guilt of living in the immediate vicinity of the Machine Institute and the sin of falling into the eyes of a law enforcement team on the wide avenues of Lugansk.
After working from hand to mouth for a month, hitting five times under hot hand and having shown humility and humility, the reformed offender with a joyful jump left the walls of the State Bureau of Investigation, which had become almost native to him.
The fate of those who in one way or another attracted the special attention of the knights of the trumpet and dagger was more difficult.
Usually it all started with a welcome shooting of the leg in the knee area. Then, after giving him the first medical care(We had our own hospital, remember?), the prisoner was dragged into the room for a heart-to-heart talk. There he was trimmed with various improvised devices - clubs, hammers, shovels, butts and surgical instruments. After that, the unfortunate was put on a chain and there he, most likely, either “ran away” or died from a “heart attack”.
Naturally, at first we all justified both the activities of the cellars and the activities of Maniac. Firstly, at that time there was no law and order on the streets of Lugansk, and it seemed to us that our comrades were fulfilling this role. And where there is law and order, there can not do without prisons. Moreover, Lugansk was then overwhelmed by a tsunami of crime and decay, the inevitable companions of war and anarchy. What is only the “fighting group” of the “KGB” militia, widely known in narrow circles, which in the period from July to August 2014 robbed at least one and a half thousand abandoned Lugansk apartments, until it was possible to stop its “fight for Novorossia”. These people robbed trains ...
In addition, one should not discount the wave of spy mania and the feverish search for saboteurs and terrorist mortars. And she had every reason to. At the headquarters of the battalion of the National Guard "Kyiv-1" we somehow found a journal of work of artillery gunners, "working" in Luhansk, abandoned in a hurry. It was a very, very large ledger, with phone numbers and names and results. One such artillery gunner, a suspicious man with a soldier's bearing and a piping on the back of his head, was detained by us, Maniak "split" before our eyes, breaking two shovels about him in the yard of our barracks on the Veselenky farm. He was then found with radio equipment and $2,000 in cash. Another 60,000 "greens" were on the bank card seized from him.
And the very mode of our stay at the base did not allow us to fully receive and evaluate information about the activities of Maniac. In those short days of our stay in the barracks between combat tours, we had no time for collecting rumors and information. However, as always, sooner or later, the amount of information gradually and inevitably began to turn into quality.
The very widespread use of slave labor in all spheres of life of the SBI was simply shocking. People were not shy and shamelessly used prisoners in all dirty and hard work, from cleaning the territory and digging trenches to cooking. I was simply amazed how quickly the militias got used to this order of things and considered it natural. Showing no pity or compassion for his former fellow citizens and countrymen. This heartlessness pointed to something that I could not understand and define it, and it worried me, just as it sometimes bothers you this or that word that you can’t remember in any way and for that you forget it all the more.
There was no contempt of a warrior for a non-warrior. Since the prisoners were also very actively used by the civilian, mostly female staff of the SBI, who never risked her in their life and did not put her daily on the card table of armed confrontation as the minimum rate. There was no general fashion for ostentatious, smart violence and cruelty, without following which in public, you would lose something in the eyes of your colleagues and subordinates. Not at all. The very routine and routine of coercion, its naturalness and spontaneity told me something that I could not understand. And it was necessary to understand this, because without such an understanding, all our sacrifices and efforts were depreciated and given to reproach. But one day, I remembered my cherished word. It happened when I heard this phrase from Sasha. “We threw off some beavers to put others on our necks. But these are the same beavers.”
1) Brigade East.
The battalion was formed by local militias and has nothing to do with the Chechen unit of the same name. The head of the battalion, Alexander Khodakovsky, is the head of the Security Service of the DPR, the head of the "Patriotic Forces of Donbass" and the former commander of the Alpha special unit of the SBU Department of the Donetsk region.
According to Ukrainian media reports, the battalion is made up of former employees of the Ukrainian special services (Alfa, Berkut), Russian volunteers.
Until July 9, together with the Oplot battalion, he controlled Donetsk, Snezhnoye and Shakhtyorsk, until August 9 - Saur-Mogila.
2) GBR Batman
The group specializes in combating enemy agents, fire spotters, gunners, mobile mortar crews and enemy DRGs. If necessary, it can carry out sweeps of settlements from small enemy forces, has a wide arsenal of small arms and its own armored vehicles recaptured from the enemy in battles - there is even 1 T-64 tank. The commander of this group has the call sign "Batman", which is why this group, known as the RRT (Rapid Response Group), is usually called the "Batman" RRT. Hence the characteristic symbol of the unit itself.
3) Dawn Battalion.
The Zarya battalion is the largest armed formation of the LPR militia, a division of the Army of the South-East. The battalion is named after the Lugansk football club. The headquarters is located in the building of the regional military registration and enlistment office of Lugansk. The battalion commander was originally Major Igor Plotnitsky (later to become the head of the LPR), later Andrey Patrushev.
The battalion was formed on May 5, 2014 in Luhansk on the basis of the regional military registration and enlistment office. On May 28, the battalion took part in the blockade of the Ukrainian military unit 3035 in Luhansk. The consecration of the banner according to the Orthodox rite took place on May 29, 2014.
According to the Ukrainian side, the battalion took part in the defense of Luhansk and suffered heavy losses near the village of Metallist on June 19. For their part, the militia claimed that in the battles for Metalist it was they who managed to defeat the pro-Ukrainian Aidar battalion. During that battle, the battalion fighters managed to capture the Ukrainian senior lieutenant Nadezhda Savchenko.
According to historian Igor Pykhalov, who fought in the battalion, most of the fighters in the Zarya battalion were born in the Luhansk region, aged 18 to 59. At the same time, there are very few young people, but mostly those who are over 25-30 years old are fighting: “The locals take weapons in their hands according to the principle “enemies burned their own hut.” According to the militias, many of them did not even serve in the army. Weapons were taken up by people of various professions. Also, about 10% are volunteers from Russia.
4) Battalion Kalmius.
Battalion "Kalmius" - an armed formation of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic. Often referred to in the media as a special forces battalion. The commander at the end of June is Konstantin Kuzmin. The name comes from the river of the same name, one of the largest rivers in the Donbass. One of the largest "militia" detachments, according to some sources, was initially formed exclusively from volunteer miners.
The battalion received its baptism of fire on June 26-27, 2014 in Donetsk, after the militias of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic occupied the territory of military unit 3004 of the Internal Troops of Ukraine. It was formed a week earlier on June 21. The core of the battalion is made up of miners, initially numbering about five hundred people, however, it is also known about the soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine who have transferred to the service (at least one). It is because of this core that the unit is often called the "miner's battalion". It is the first armed formation created by the DPR "from scratch". Initially, the unit was commanded by Fedor Berezin, who later became Igor Strelkov's deputy.
5) Oplot Battalion
Battalion "Oplot" - an armed formation (initially staffed according to the state of the battalion) as part of a motorized rifle brigade, which was included in the Ministry of Defense of the Donetsk People's Republic.
The commander is Major Oleksandr Zakharchenko, a former employee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine (according to the Ukrainian media) or an electrical technician of the 6th category (according to his own statement).
Initially Oplot was formed in Kharkiv in January 2014 as an anti-Maidan organization based on Yevgeny Zhilin’s Oplot organization (the symbol of the club was a rhinoceros and the slogan “live strong”). On April 16, 2014, 20 activists of the organization occupied the building of the Donetsk city council and demanded a referendum on the status of the Donetsk region.
At the end of May 2014, Oplot secured the residence of oligarch Rinat Akhmetov in Donetsk. As a battalion, known since June 2014. At the end of July, the battalion fighters took part in the battles for the Donetsk airport and Kozhevnya.
6) OBMG Somalia.
An armed formation on the territory of the DPR, led by Mikhail Sergeevich Tolstykh - callsign Givi. Took part in the battles for Ilovaisk and the storming of the Donetsk airport. It arose from the so-called. Givi groups. Recently merged with the Sparta Battalion.
7) The Ghost Brigade is an armed formation taking part in the armed conflict in the east of Ukraine. It conducts military operations against the Armed Forces of Ukraine, while not submitting to the self-proclaimed LPR and is in conflict with the Don Cossacks of the KNG VVD. Is under the command of a native Lugansk region, Don Cossack Alexei Mozgovoy.
In mid-summer 2014, the strength of the battalion was estimated at 600 fighters. The headquarters was located on the territory of the Lisichansk glass factory. They were armed with ATGMs, anti-aircraft missiles and small arms.
Despite that, the unit operated on the territory of the Luhansk region, Mozgovoy's detachment was more connected with the former Minister of Defense of the Donetsk People's Republic Igor Strelkov. In particular, the retreat from Lisichansk was declared as the execution of Strelkov's order.
Mozgovoy's group was formed in Luhansk during the protests in April 2014 as a self-defense unit and was originally called the "People's Militia of the Luhansk Region". At that time she was only a platoon. After a conflict with the leadership of the Army of the South-East, the NOL left Lugansk and was initially based in summer camps near Olkhovka, then near Antratsit and Sverdlovsk (the Yaseni camp site, bombed on May 27).
