VK-10High-voltage three-pole VK-10 series circuit breakers with a spring drive are designed for operation in switchgear cabinets for indoor and outdoor installation with a rated voltage up to 11 kV, 3-phase alternating current, frequency 50 or 60 Hz.
Permissible temperature range of the air surrounding the switch is from "-25" to "+45". To ensure the possibility of operation of the circuit breaker at temperatures below "-25C", heating devices must be provided in the installations.
The oil circuit breaker is controlled remotely or manually by a motor spring drive of indirect action. Switching on of the MV is carried out due to the energy previously stored by the closing springs of the drive, switching off - due to the energy stored by the opening spring oil switch when turned on.
The base of the oil circuit breaker consists of a frame on which side racks are installed for mounting the drive and a pedal is fixed to unlock the MV in the switchgear box, a grounding contact and a pole mechanism housing. The body of the pole mechanism is made as a monoblock for all three poles.
The pole of the oil circuit breaker consists of an insulating cylinder, at the lower end of which a metal flange is reinforced. Cylinders VK-10 are fixed on the mechanism body.
A current-collecting device is installed in the pole cylinder, which consists of a holder with two guide rods.
Between the guide and movable rods there is a current conductor (roller current collector), which serves to transfer current from the movable to the guide rods and at the same time to guide the movable rods. The conductor can have from four to eight pairs of rollers, depending on Inom. off
An arc chute of transverse oil blast is installed above the current collector on a spacer cylinder. A socket contact is installed above the camera. On the basis of the contact, 9 lamellas are installed in the holder - an oil circuit breaker at Inom.=630, 1000A, and 11 lamellas - MV at Inom.=1250, 1600A. The lower ends of the lamellas are lined with arc-resistant ceramic-metal.

Switch drives.
a) VKE circuit breakers are equipped with PEV-11 type electromagnetic drives.
The drive consists of a switching electromagnet (a coil, a movable core with a rod and a magnetic circuit) and a drive mechanism coupled to the switch shaft. A disconnecting electromagnet mounted on the bottom plate of the mechanism body.
The drive is equipped with an electrical interlock against spontaneous reclosing of the short circuit breaker. (jumping). The control circuits for the circuit breaker and the circuit breaker opening are connected through auxiliary contacts KBV and KBO, respectively, which ensures automatic power cut of the switching and disconnecting electromagnets after the completion of the corresponding operation.
Automata are installed in the power circuit in each cell. KMV contactors are also installed in the electromagnet circuit, which supply a rectified current to the closing coil with their contacts.
b) The VMT-110 and VMT-220 circuit breakers are equipped with spring-motor drives PprK-1400.
The drive is designed for remote (on duty) or by means of automation and local (on duty) control of the circuit breaker.
The drive ensures that the circuit breaker is closed, held in the closed position and the moving parts of the circuit breaker are released to open it. The main components of the drive are: housing, working springs, coupling and disengaging device, electromagnets for switching on and off, blocking device, electric motor with a gearbox.
The working spring winding mechanism (electric motor with worm gear and chain drive) is equipped with a spring state indicator. A handle for manual winding of springs can be installed on the shaft of the worm gearbox.
On the front side of the drive there is a panel in the form of a plate on which are installed: an automatic machine, a magnetic starter, a push-button control post, a switch for electric motor control modes (manual and automatic), and an operation counter.
On the bottom of the cabinet there are two heating devices with a power of 400 W each.
The normal position of the mode switch on the panel, in the drive cabinet is “automatic”. "Manual" is used for repair work.
The circuit breaker is controlled remotely from the control room, the key is installed on the control panel of the VMT-110 circuit breaker. If it is necessary to turn off the circuit breaker on site (with the permission of the ODS), press the button installed on the opening solenoid.
The drive has a number of interlocks:
a) against turning on the electric motor of the working spring plant when the manual winding handle is installed on the gearbox shaft (the starter circuit opens;
b) against turning on or unprepared for this operation, the mechanism of working springs, is provided by breaking the power supply circuit of the closing electromagnet.
c) against switching on “idle” (the switch is on).
The position of the switch can be judged by the index, which is located on the frame behind the glass at the first column from the drive. Enabled - "B", disabled - "O".

The energy industry has a very big problem on its hands: professionals born between the mid-1940s and mid-1960s are approaching retirement age. And a very big question arises: who will replace them?
Overcoming barriers to renewable energy
Despite certain achievements in last years, energy from renewable sources is a very modest part of modern energy services around the world. Why is it so?
Real-time power transmission monitoring
Demand for electricity continues to grow and transmission companies are faced with the challenge of increasing the transmission capacity of their networks. It can be solved by building new and modernizing old lines. But there is another way to solve it, it is to use sensors and network monitoring technology.
Material capable of making solar power 'surprisingly cheap'
Solar cells, made from a material that has long been known and cheaper than silicon, can generate the same amount electrical energy like solar panels in use today.
Comparison of SF6 and vacuum circuit breakers for medium voltage
Experience in the development of medium voltage circuit breakers, both SF6 and vacuum, has provided sufficient evidence that neither of the two technologies is, in general, significantly superior to the other. Decision making in favor of one technology or another is stimulated by economic forces, user preferences, national "traditions", competencies and special requirements.

What factors will affect the future of transformer manufacturers?
Whether you are generating or selling electricity, or supplying power transformers outside of the country, you have to fight competition in global market. There are three main categories of factors that will influence the future of all transformer manufacturers.
The future of medium voltage switching equipment
Smart grids seek to optimize the links between electricity demand and supply. By integrating more distributed and renewable energy sources into one grid. Is MV switchgear ready for these challenges, or does it need to be further developed?
In search of a replacement for SF6 gas
SF6, which has a number of useful characteristics, is used in various industries, in particular, it is actively used in the high voltage electricity sector. However, SF6 also has a significant drawback - it is a powerful greenhouse gas. It is included in the list of six gases included in the Kyoto Protocol.
Advantages and types of switchgear
It is desirable to place the electrical substation in the center of the load. However, often the main obstacle to such substation placement is the space required for it. This problem can be solved by applying GIS technology.
Vacuum as arc quenching medium
At present, at medium voltages, the technology of arc quenching in vacuum dominates over technologies using air, SF6, or oil. Generally, vacuum circuit breakers are safer, and more reliable in situations where the number of normal operations and maintenance operations short circuits, very large.
