Less than 100 kilometers from Sunny Beach is an interesting Bulgarian city and at the same time the resort of Varna. It is the second largest city after the Bulgarian capital Sofia. Many iconic sights are concentrated on its territory, a visit to which will be a great addition to your holiday in Bulgaria.
If you decide to come to the city on your own, then it is best to set aside two days to get to know him, and if you come with a tour, you can do it in one day, but you will have to see all the sights in a cursory manner.
The Seaside Park stretches along the entire coast of Varna, its total length is about eight kilometers and according to this indicator it is the largest park in Europe. Any construction is prohibited on the embankment, so every year a huge number of tourists come to admire this place. But it's not easy a good place for walks, there is also a dolphinarium, an aquarium, many playgrounds, attractions, cafes, restaurants and everything else that contributes to a comfortable stay. If you wish, you can rent a sunbed and enjoy a wonderful holiday on the sandy beach.
Tourists are brought to Varna from many Bulgarian resorts to visit the local Festa Dolphinarium, which was opened back in 1984. Dolphins live in fairly spacious pools measuring 12 by 15 meters and about six meters deep. Several dolphins were brought from the Caribbean. Every day, the dolphinarium hosts shows with the participation of dolphins and other inhabitants. The auditorium can accommodate 1,200 people at the same time and quite often real sold-out crowds gather at the performances. The Dolphinarium is open daily, except Mondays, in summer the performances are held four times a day, and in winter only once at 12 o'clock.
Such an attraction as the Roman Baths belongs to the second century AD. Of course, at one time they were massive structures, but now only a few fragments remain of them. The Roman baths are open to the public every day except Monday from 10 am to 5 pm.
In the Seaside Park mentioned above, there is an observatory named after the famous scientist Nicolaus Copernicus. The main purpose of this observatory is to observe the satellites of the Earth. This is a modern complex that can pleasantly surprise even those tourists who are far from astronomy. True, visiting this place is possible only by prior reservation.
15 kilometers from Varna is one of the most significant sights of the country - the Aladzha Orthodox Monastery. Its peculiarity is that it is not built of stone or any other material, but is carved into the rock. Here you can see the cell rooms in which the monks used to live. The first hermits began to settle in these places in the 6th century, and it is to this period that the appearance of this monastery is attributed. Numerous frescoes, with which this monastery was once decorated, have practically not survived to this day.
Inside the monastery is divided into separate rooms: a temple, monastic cells, a chapel, a refectory, a kitchen. The best preserved chapel, here you can even see fragments of some frescoes. Temple icons are stored in a small museum located near the entrance to the territory of the monastery. In the same museum you can buy various religious symbols and souvenirs.
Going to this place, you should pay attention to the fact that the monastery is open for tourists from 9 to 18 hours (lunch from 12 to 13), but not every day, but only from Wednesday to Sunday. When going to this place, it is advisable to take care of good and comfortable shoes, as you will need to climb metal stairs and climb steep slopes.
There is a unique building in Varna called the Stone Forest. At first glance, it may seem that this is a man-made structure, but in fact, a person has nothing to do with it. In this place, stone pillars are concentrated, which are more reminiscent of columns. Their height is from 5 to 6 meters and they actually somewhat resemble a forest. Scientists have come to the conclusion that these stone structures are natural stalagmites, formed naturally about 50 million years ago. This forest is located about 15 kilometers from the city and the most convenient way to get there is by taxi. You can visit it any day and at any time of the day.
There are also several noteworthy museums in Varna. One of them is the Museum of Archeology, which is one of the largest museums in the country. By visiting this museum, you will have the opportunity to get acquainted with the beautiful and very rich heritage of the city. The museum collection contains more than 50 thousand exhibits, which are divided into different thematic zones. The pride of the museum is a collection of objects and items made of gold, which was found during excavations near Varna and dates back to the fifth century AD.
The exposition of the Naval Museum has about 100 thousand exhibits. It was opened in Varna in 1879, and gradually its exposition expanded and increased. Cannons, warships, rockets, cars, helicopters are on display for tourists. Directly in the building you can see maps, plans for battles and military operations, military documents, awards.
The map shows that territorially Sunny Beach is located between two large cities of the South-Eastern coast, which have international airports: Burgas and Varna.
From here, the main and most optimal ways to get to the resort:
- Airplane.
- Bus (or tourist shuttle).
- Taxi.
- Personal car.
By plane
The easiest way to get to Sunny Beach is from Burgas Airport. In the high season, which falls on July - August (time for holidays at sea), planes from different cities of Russia land here up to fifteen times a day: Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan, Perm, Novosibirsk, Nizhny Novgorod.
Regular flights are offered by the national carrier Bulgaria Air, as well as the Russian airline Siberia S7, in addition, you can use charter flights, for example, from IFly.
The cost of a round-trip ticket, depending on the season and the timing of the purchase, will be from 160 to 350 €. I still recommend planning your trip in advance to save up to half the cost of tickets. You can monitor air tickets on aggregator sites or, for example,.
Those who want to get rid of the problems of finding a ticket can turn to intermediaries: travel agencies and tour operators offering a wide variety of flight options at any time of the year and for any period.
Buses No. 10 and No. 22 run from the airport to the central bus station in Sunny Beach (see section "By bus").
You can also take a taxi to the resort. In fact, the bus station is the center of the coast, where tourists "nest".
By train
It will not be possible to get to Sunny Beach directly using railway transport, since there is no appropriate infrastructure in this region.
The nearest station will be the station of Avtogara South, where you can arrive from Moscow (see the section of the overview article about Bulgaria).
Buses No. 10 and No. 22 run from Burgas railway station (“Avtogara South”) to the central station of Sunny Beach (see section “By bus”). Having traveled from the bus station in Sunny Beach one stop on any city bus (see the section "How to get around"), you will find yourself in the heart of the resort.
By bus
city buses
Regardless of whether you arrived by plane or did not deny yourself the pleasure of getting by train, a comfortable M-bus bus will take you to the bus station in Sunny Beach, which runs every 15 minutes every day.
The ticket price is 3 € (6 leva). Travel time is approximately 40–50 minutes. The central bus station stop is located right next to the Burgas railway station, but from the airport you have to walk about seven minutes to the stop (towards the bridge). This place does not have a specific address, but you should ask exactly the bus stop to Sunny Beach. Locals and taxi drivers know about it.
Please note that the bus goes to the central bus station in Sunny Beach. If you are coming here for the first time and plan to get there on your own, check exactly where your hotel is located. For example, to the unofficial center of the resort (the hotel and casino "Kuban") you need to drive one stop on any city bus. It is more difficult to get from Varna. From the central bus station there is also a regular bus to Sunny Beach. The ticket will cost 6 € (12 leva). Travel time will be approximately 2.5 hours. But from the airport you will have to take a taxi, a distance of about 110 kilometers will cost you 50–75 € (100–150 leva).
Tourist shuttles
Vacationers big company you will like the tourist shuttle or the eight-seater minibus type of our minibuses. You can order a ticket for it in advance on the official website of the company . A representative with a sign will meet you at the arrivals area and escort you to the bus. The cost of the trip will be 7 € (14 leva).
I use the bus most often, but if you have to get there at night (city buses run from 6:00 to 20:00), you can’t do without a taxi.
Remember that in order to travel by bus, money in local currency must be prepared in advance, since it will not work to pay in euros, dollars or rubles. Checked on personal experience, the Bulgarian conductors are adamant. Exchange some leva in advance for the trip.
By car
By taxi
The easiest way to get to Sunny Beach by car is to take a taxi. For example, from Burgas, if you flew there. But here I advise you to be very careful, as the greed of the local "bombs" can go off scale to all conceivable limits.
The average price for the road to the resort of 36 kilometers on the way should NOT be higher than 20 € in the high season (July - August). Believe me, taxi drivers will demand 30 €, and 50 €, and even 100 € (seeing that you are not in the subject). Do not go on about such dishonorable manipulations, demand an adequate cost.
Nuance: knowledgeable people do not be too lazy to go to the bus stop (see its location above), which is located near the airport, where a taxi will cost much less.
You can negotiate with the driver for 5-10 € (10-20 leva) if you go with a few more people. I think that such savings will not hurt single tourists or couples.
By private car
Fans of their own “steering wheel” upon arrival in Bulgaria can rent a car at the airport. Representatives of companies are located in the arrivals hall, they are located on the left in the direction of travel. Often on the streets of the resort you can find cars with Russian numbers. Vacationers who plan to stay here for a long time (from two weeks) come to Sunny Beach, having overcome more than 3,000 kilometers. Now all possible routes pass around Ukraine, so such a trip has become much longer and, accordingly, more expensive.
Everyone can build their own route using the navigator. The majority of tourists travel through big cities Europe. For example, a route might look like this:
Sunny Beach in summer
In summer, Sunny Beach dresses up in its brightest clothes, luring tourists with the clink of glasses in beach bars and the dance rhythm that comes from all nightclubs. This is the time of flowering of the southern acacia, the night singing of cicadas, as well as the peak of the work of all hotels and entertainment venues. Attractions, water parks, water activities, night walks on a yacht - what will they offer you to make your vacation unforgettable. Just have time to prepare money! Golden beaches, carousels, a variety of cocktails, ice cream of all kinds, the smell of delicious pizza spreading along the entire promenade - it is impossible to resist these temptations.
Even making a promenade to the center for a couple of kilometers, you will stumble upon a small restaurant of Serbian cuisine, where you will be tempted to buy fish, verified by personal experience!
The weather at this time consistently pleases tourists: the air temperature does not drop below +29 °C during the day, and the water temperature reaches +24–26 °C. In July - August, not only rains, but also just a cloudy day, you most likely will not wait. Sunny Beach is really flooded with sun without a single cloud!
This large Bulgarian resort is noisy day and night. It seems that people here do not sleep, but hang out around the clock! Children frolic on trampolines, take pictures with colorful parrots, braid their hair, women bask in the hands of caring masseurs and try on new images in shopping centers, men appreciate local beer, eating it with fish, sometimes caught with their own hands. In a word, everyone finds here for himself the joy of taste and is given to rest to the fullest. Of course, summer is the season of the resort glory of Sunny Beach.
Sunny Beach in autumn
In September-October, the tourist flow decreases, which means that vacationers will be able to save money by arriving on the coast in early autumn. Accommodation and tickets become cheaper by 5%. Prices for fruits and vegetables are 15-20% lower. At the same time, the quality beach holiday remains unchanged. Except for one small "but". In September, the weather from time to time begins to present surprises: you are going to the beach in the morning, you leave the house, and then it starts to rain.
True, they say that autumn in Bulgaria begins only on September 15, which means that until that time all cloudiness is short-lived, and the sun still prevails in the sky. The temperature remains comfortable for walking and swimming: the air warms up to +27 °C, water up to +21–23 °C.
There are fewer tourists, the summer bustle subsides, a calmer atmosphere reigns in bars and clubs. reverse side medals will be that at the end of September most establishments are closed.
As for me, I specially came to Sunny Beach in the summer, and then stayed here in the fall to see with my own eyes how the giant resort is gradually dying out: restaurants, bars, ice cream tents close one after another, trampolines are blown away and removed, it turns off until next year, water in the slides of large water parks. On the one hand, the streets are calmer, and on the other hand, you become a witness to a sad spectacle, as if before your very eyes a huge monster falls into hibernation.
Personal advice: when relaxing in Sunny Beach in autumn, plan a cultural program. Autumn gives you the opportunity to enjoy leisurely day trips to neighboring villages: Kosharitsa, Tynkovo, Ravda, and Nessebar. We wrote about the last town.
Since November, Sunny Beach has been dying out. Most shops and restaurants are tightly closed until the summer. Coming here, you risk sharing your resort society only with cats and dogs that live here all year round. Seriously, the air temperature during these months can hardly be called comfortable: from +15 ° C to 0 ° C, a strong piercing wind often blows from the sea during this period. Do you need it? There is no entertainment, except for a walk in a warm jacket and a hat with earflaps along the deserted embankment.
Sunny Beach in spring
In April - May it is cool in Sunny Beach. The air temperature does not rise above +20 ° C, but everything begins to bloom and bloom beautifully.
The swimming season is not yet open, but I know people who come here in April to enjoy the purest mountain air, not clouded by the summer heat. So the rest at this time of the year is more of a cultural and recreational one.
Sunny Beach in winter
In winter, as you understand, the situation in Sunny Beach is even more aggravated compared to autumn. The sun no longer smells, but it gets colder every day. If in autumn it was possible to comfortably explore the sights and take long walks for the whole day, then in winter it is more difficult to do this: the air temperature drops to -10 ° C, the strong wind from the sea increases, so walking along the embankment ceases to be pleasant.
Of the hotels, mainly only those that provide SPA services to customers (the number of such hotels is no more than 10%) work. It would seem that here you can do in the winter? However, speaking with Russian owners who constantly come here, I was surprised when I heard that some families have a tradition of coming to Sunny Beach under New Year in December. There is almost no sun here, so I did not understand what is the point of such a winter voyage to a summer resort.
Clue:
Sunny Beach - monthly weather
Districts. Where is the best place to live
Looking at Sunny Beach from a bird's eye view, you will see that on the north side it borders on the resort town, and on the south it adjoins the new part of the city.
All eight kilometers along the seashore are entirely hotels, bars, casinos, restaurants.
Conventionally, I would divide the tourist resort of Sunny Beach into three zones:
- First line of the sea. These are hundreds of luxury hotels, most of which are at least 4 *. In my classification it is "party zone". On the above map, all the hotels located from the sea line to the main street.
Some hotels are right on the beach, so when you go out in the morning for breakfast, you can admire the sunrise ( geographical position Sunny Beach is such that you can see the sunrise on the sea, and the sunset in the mountains in the west). The center of Sunny Beach is the area of the hotel "Kuban".
A tall white tower with red and blue inscription colors can be seen from almost anywhere on the coast. This is a kind of "navel" of a large resort. Near this place are shopping arcades, the most fashionable and expensive restaurants and nightclubs. In the evenings, they loudly call to bars and offer cafes for dinner. Personally, I don’t find anything special in this area, it’s all hustle and bustle, but for some reason tourists like to come here from all over the coast, wander around the stalls, pushing each other. In a word, "Kuban" is a kind of Arbat, a local symbol. While the hotel "Kuban" is standing, Sunny Beach is alive. - Second zone Sunny Beach I call "owner's zone". These are hotels and apartment complexes located between the main street and the main road to Varna and Burgas.
Basically, these are 3 * hotels with their own closed territory, reception, swimming pool and a small restaurant. In most of these hotels, real estate is privately owned. individuals who come to rest themselves or rent apartments. The distance to the sea is up to one kilometer, this is considered walking distance, but you have to walk fifteen minutes to the beach. - To third zone In Sunny Beach, I refer to streets and villages that are more than two kilometers away from the sea. I call this part of the resort "local area".
There are practically no hotels here. Despite the fact that Sunny Beach is an extremely party place. In this area there are houses, schools and kindergartens, where a few indigenous people of this resort live. They are few, but they exist. Here you can find the cheapest grocery and hardware stores, clothing markets and small cafes where only locals sit. By the way, lovers of a very budget holiday, if desired, can agree with the owner and rent a room (not a separate apartment) for 5-7 € (10-15 leva) per day. It can be done . This method is suitable, of course, for students and single tourists who save on housing. I want to advise tourists not to disdain this area, these streets have their own flavor. Having had enough of the noise and roar of the embankment, take the time to wander on the third line, just to see another Sunny Beach: unglamorous, simple, truly Bulgarian.
Summarizing
When choosing a place to stay in Sunny Beach, proceed from your own tastes and expectations from the rest. If you are traveling with a large company and plan to have fun, go to bars, dance until the morning and enjoy the sea, choose the first line of the sea. You will sleep off and move away from rest later at work. The Trevelask section, which contains information on most of the major hotels on the coast, will help you choose the most suitable hotel option in terms of price and quality. You can book your favorite hotel at booking -.
As family people, living on their own schedules, having children and wanting to improve their health at the resort, and not undermine it, choose the second line. There are many large supermarkets, hardware stores, parks and just beautiful places for walks. You can rent a studio or apartment, for example. Having set out to find the best option, do not be too lazy to look into social networks, where there are a huge number of groups and communities of homeowners who rent out their property. Here, by the way, you can find announcements about useful services and tips for tourists (excursions, pharmacies, etc.).
If for you the comfort of housing is not in the first place, but the price and the desire to see the real Bulgarian life, go to the “zone of local residents”. Having sacrificed everyday comfort, you will see non-tourist and non-pretentious Sunny Beach. You will be proud of yourself later.
What are the prices for holidays
By the way
If you have time, take a look at the unusual park located nearby. After walking in Old Nessebar and getting lost in its streets, do not forget to look into natural area located on the border of the new district of the city of Nessebar and Ravda. There
there are beautiful sand dunes, which, by the way, are included in the list of attractions protected by the state.
Here they are, these dunes.
Saint Vlas
Like Old Nessebar, St. Vlas adjoins Sunny Beach, only from the opposite, northern side. I still advise the most sports tourists Those who want to gain health and vivid emotions on vacation should try to get there on foot.
The distance is small, from 2 to 5 kilometers from that part of Sunny Beach where you live, but how many emotions!
How to get there
- City buses No. 5, 8. Their stops are the same as route No. 1. The fare is 0.75 € and 2 €, respectively (1.5 and 4 leva). The time interval between buses is already longer: if you are not lucky right away, you will have to wait for the next bus for about half an hour.
- Taxi. The cost can vary from 10 to 50 € (from 20 to 100 leva) in different taxi fares.
- The road by car will take 15-20 minutes from the place where you rest.
What to watch
The city is mostly located at the foot of Staraya Planina. Some houses are located over 100 meters above sea level. Walking the streets of Vlas is not easy: up and down. Comfortable shoes and panama will definitely come in handy here.
Russian speech is heard everywhere: as in Sunny Beach, most of the real estate is privately owned, including Russians. Therefore, if on the streets you meet a young family with a stroller, a sporty-looking pensioner or a fashionably dressed couple, be sure they are Russians! But back to the sights:
The huge flag of Bulgaria flutters over the tower, it can be seen from afar. You can get there by the free water park bus (which picks up tourists at public transport stops marked with blue arrows).
Every 15–20 minutes a free bus runs to the water park, picking up tourists from city bus stops. This is the most convenient way to get to your destination.
Working hours:
- June 21–August 24 - from 9:30 to 19:00;
- August 25–September 15 - from 10:00 to 18:00.
Price:
- Children up to 0.90 meters - free of charge.
- Children 0.90-1.30 meters tall - 10 € (20 BGN) (full day), 5 € (10 BGN) (after 15:00).
- Adults over 1.30 meters - 18 € (35 BGN) (full day), 13 € (25 BGN) (after 15:00).
Scheme
On the territory of the water park for the convenience of vacationers are:
- 13 water slides of varying difficulty (18m X-treme, Kamikaze, Free Fall, just to name a few);
- swimming pools for adults and children;
- children's area;
- stalls with ice cream, corn, water and juices;
- cafes and bars;
- locker rooms and safes for storing personal valuables (for a fee).
Life-size sculptures of animals are located throughout the park. They bring great pleasure to adults and children.
Children under 6 love the children's area of the water park, which has its own slides, fountains, rope ladders and much more.
Any visitor to the Action water park leaves no one indifferent. Visit - you won't regret it.
Don't forget to bring sunscreen!
Karting
The length of the track is 450 meters. There is a professional surface (the local racing team trained here) and special equipment.
How to get there
Located on the E87 highway, Burgas-Varna, not far from the Action water park.
The black sign shows the location of the go-kart track. You can get here by getting off the Palma stop (center) of city buses No. 1, 5, 8 and walking for 15 minutes along the mall to the E87 highway.
Price:
- 10 minutes - 15 € (30 leva),
- 15 minutes - 20 € (40 leva),
- 20 minutes - 25 € (50 leva).
Peculiarities
You can drive on Honda karts, having previously put on a balaclava (individual, disposable) and a helmet provided by the track staff.
Each lap is measured, and you can find out how fast and in what time you covered the track. Riders are usually satisfied.
Fishing
Men start to miss their hobbies on vacation very quickly. This section is for those who love to fish. All kiosks selling excursions also offer fishing in small boats.
Price
The session will cost 30 € (60 leva).
Included in the price:
- Transfer to Nessebar (the place where fishing started). Start at 6:00.
- Fishing in the sea (for six hours).
- Transfer to the house.
- Fishing rods and worms.
Fishing takes place right in front of Old Nessebar. Gobies, mackerel and small horse mackerel are caught.
Emotions from the process and the sea - all this leaves pleasant memories.
Shopping and shops
While men are fishing, children are joyfully moving down the slides, and extreme people are getting adrenaline with might and main on karting, what do beautiful creatures, the weaker sex, do?
That's right, shoppers! More precisely, the right shopping.
On the territory of the entire resort there is a large, no, even a huge number of souvenir shops, shops, supermarkets that sell magnets, key rings, souvenir plates, clothes, shoes, and locally produced cosmetics. Many can be found playing cards, backgammon, chess.
Shops with beach accessories are popular with vacationers.
How not to get lost among this variety and make the right purchase that you won't regret later?
To begin with, I advise you to visit one wonderful place.
Royal Beach Mall
By the way, this is the only real shopping center in Sunny Beach. In fact, it occupies the first two floors of the five-star Royal Beach Barcelo hotel.
Here it is on the map, lost among the hotels closer to the first line of the sea. On the main street, the Oasis Hotel and the bus stop of the same name serve as a landmark (any number of the city bus goes here).
More than 100 shops, two restaurants, bars, a confectionery, a bank and a fairly spacious parking lot for 1 € (2 leva) per hour. I will say right away that only in this mall you can buy quality things. Present as famous brands, and Bulgarian.
On my own behalf, I recommend a look at the Fetish store, these are bizarre things from two Bulgarian designers from Plovdiv at very good prices. Let's say, leather shoes of original design will cost only 80 € (150 leva)! But it is completely handmade and unique design. Twice I came to this store, twice I left completely changed from head to toe! Especially the store will appeal to fans of grunge style.
In other stores, prices are different, sometimes you can bargain. There are often discounts, especially in the second half of August, when the season comes to an end.
If you buy several expensive items worth more than 500 €, apply for Tax Free. At Burgas Airport you can get a tax refund up to 20% of the cost.
Even last year, I would say that this is where quality shopping in Sunny Beach ends. But! The discoveries continue: this summer, wandering around the Kuban Hotel, I stumbled upon charming red handmade shoes for only 50 € (109 leva)! So seek and you shall find, as they say.
For those wishing to purchase pink cosmetics on an industrial scale, I recommend delving into the coast and finding a wholesale shop. He is located here.
The reference point is the hotel "Kuban", from which you move in the opposite direction from the sea until it stops and turn left to the sign "Bulgarian rose. Warehouse".
Prices there are two times lower than on the coast. And the choice is great! So I recommend not to be lazy.
By the way, the last one. In Sunny Beach there is not a single, you know, not a single decent store of decorative cosmetics. There are more than enough pink creams and lotions, but you will not find mascaras or eye shadows in the afternoon with fire. Inexplicable but the fact.
Bars. Where to go
Clubs and nightlife
Sunny Beach is famous for its nightlife and therefore thunders throughout Europe. Young people from all over the world come to hang out, get acquainted, communicate. All conditions are created here to forget about problems, worries and surrender to the power of music, alcohol and passion.
In the evening the doors of all clubs open. They work seven days a week.
dance clubs
One of the oldest dance clubs in Sunny Beach is Disco Orange.
You can get to it by any of the city buses, having reached the Strandzha stop. The audience there is mostly foreign, a lot of English. Music is good. Of the minuses: the entrance is paid for everyone and will cost 15 € (30 leva). Plus drinks that start from 5 €.
Nightclubs Revolution Music Factory and Dance club Mania, Cacao Beach are popular with young people; they can accommodate up to 1,500 people.
It is located on the other side of Sunny Beach near the beach. Geographically, this is a stop of the city bus Hotel "Arda". Six dance halls with different music (including national Bulgarian pop), a chic bar overlooking the sea and free entry for girls until midnight.
This is the best dance club in my hit parade!
Working hours
Clubs open their doors from 22:00. At 00:00, as a rule, the dance floor begins to fill up. The peak is at 2:00 am. The hall is packed to capacity. Restaurants usually close at 5:00-6:00. From time to time, clubs invite DJs from all over the world, this can be seen on posters posted throughout the city, as well as on sites for vacation spots.
Holiday cost
If the entrance to the club is paid, it costs 3-5 € (from 5 to 10 leva). The ticket price may depend on the number of people in the company. The more people, the cheaper the ticket for one.
If you are interested in club life, take flyers that are handed out during the day on the central avenue. Often, as a bonus, you get free admission to a particular institution or a cocktail as a gift.
Great music and inexpensive drinks from 3 € create a festive atmosphere.
Game clubs
Gaming business in Sunny Beach is legalized. Here is a paradise for gamers. The resort's most famous casinos are located in hotels. The hotel-casino Platinum, Kuban, Hrizantema are popular.
They work around the clock and every day. In the absence personal experience playing in a casino, I can’t say what is the probability of winning in this place, but, apparently, there is a certain amount of adrenaline in such a game. I live not far from the Platinum casino and I constantly see the machines of the establishment's customers driving up to it, some of which are very expensive.
extreme sports
On the beaches of Sunny Beach there are all available water sports:
- water skiing (from 25 € per person),
- windsurfing (from 35 € per person),
- diving (from 50 € session with an instructor),
- parachute flight (from 25 € per person).
Items extreme species sports are marked on the map.
I'll tell you more about one.
Windsurfing
Skating on a water board is very popular on the beaches of Sunny Beach. Here ideal conditions for newbies. There are no big waves, a gentle coast and a moderate wind.
There are several places to study along the coast. Go to any point on the beach where water activities are offered, and you will be prompted where windsurfing rentals are located.
For example, one of these is located on the border of Sunny Beach and St. Vlas (there is a huge four-star hotel Riu).
Price
Skiing equipment costs 35 € (70 BGN) per hour. If you want to take an instructor, it will cost you an additional 35 € (70 BGN). It is worth noting that these prices are lower than in similar resorts in Italy, Spain, and Cyprus.
Be sure to try windsurfing, you will like the headwind, the gliding drive. Children begin to learn from the age of 10.
Souvenirs. What to bring as a gift
Coming back from vacation, we certainly want to bring our relatives and friends, and often ourselves, nice souvenirs and nice gifts.
I'll tell you about the most popular.
rose oil
This bus runs every day from 10:00 to 22:00. The time interval between buses is 40 minutes. Depart from the Orange club.
Cost of the trip: 1 € (2 lev) for an adult and 0.5 € (1 lev) for a child ticket.
Intercity buses
In addition to municipal buses, there are intercity routes, as well as those running between nearby villages (Kosharitsa, Ravda, Tynkovo). Such routes start from the bus station (“avtogar” in Bulgarian), located in the center of the resort. It can be reached by bus number 1 (bus stop "Avtogara"):
- A - Hotel Kuban.
- B - Abtogara (bus station).
If you want to go to neighboring Burgas, Varna, Pomorie, Kosharitsa, start from the bus station.
Ticket prices are low:
- to Burgas - 3 € (6 leva);
- to Kosharitsa, Ravda, St. Vlas, Elenite (nearby villages) - from 1 to 2 € (2-4 leva) depending on the route;
- in Sunny Beach - 0.7 € (1.3 leva).
You can see the bus schedule both at bus stops and at the bus station.
If you come by car from Russia or another country, you must definitely buy a vignette (pay road tax) for the duration of your stay in Bulgaria.
Price
In 2016, the amount of road tax for passenger car amounted to:
- for 1 year - 49 € (97 leva),
- for 1 month - 15 € (30 leva),
- for 1 week - 7.5 € (15 leva).
You can buy a vignette at any gas station or at a border checkpoint. Follow the rules of the road and be sure to pay for parking, there are practically no free places either in Sunny Beach or in the central part of Burgas or Varna.
Vacation with children
I already wrote that the conditions in the Sunny Beach resort are ideal for coming here with children again and again.
Noisy water parks, inflatable trampolines, pirate ships and even a special children's menu in most restaurants - what Bulgarians have not come up with to entertain the smallest tourists on this coast!
Required Program
I suggest you take your child to the following places.
water parks
Action and Nessebar water parks are a must! Here is the real expanse of playfulness and games in the water!
The children's center at the Laguna Park Hotel costs only 10 € per hour, and professional animators will take care of your child, and parents will be able to relax and be in silence.
Trampolines
On the waterfront near the Kuban Hotel there are several large inflatable trampolines where children can jump to their heart's content, and parents can escape from everyday problems. The cost of the attraction is 7.5 € (15 leva) for 20 minutes.
Pirates of the Caribbean
Pirate water park made in the style of "Pirates of the Caribbean"!
You can get to it by any city bus (stop "Stadium"), from where you can see the large hotel Kotva, next to which a pirate ship rises. Such a water park, although inferior in size to the giants Action and Nessebar, is thought out very carefully in style: funny slides, a fountain directly from the pool and even a separate tree nest for the privacy of real pirates!
Entrance to the water park will be only 3 € (12 leva).

Where is it profitable to go on your own in Bulgaria?
You can and should bargain with taxi drivers, so you can bring down the price several times, but it will still turn out to be very high.
In general, we do not advise you to travel by taxi. Although for wealthy people this is really the most convenient option.
An exception to this rule, I would like to highlight transfer from airport. If you arrive on your own, most likely you have nowhere to go and you will have to pay taxi drivers. But there is a taxi at the airport very expensive. We are in such cases (to the resort on the day of arrival and back in a couple of weeks). So it turns out cheaper by at least a third.
Advantages of excursions in Bulgaria - convenience and unique places
- it's comfortable. We got on the bus and they will take you to, the guide will tell you why they are so unique, show and organize everything. Excursions also allow you to visit places that cannot be reached on foot or by public transport.
But there is also minuses:
- Excursions are several times more expensive than independent travel.
- On excursions there is always little time to enjoy the beauties of the country - you will have to adhere to a strict schedule.
- They will show you exactly what the travel company wants, and these are usually far from the most interesting corners of the country.
When and where is it profitable to buy excursions in Bulgaria?
It is profitable to buy in the central regions of the country (Sofia, Veliko Trnovo, Plovdiv, Rose Valley), which are quite difficult to get to on your own. A trip to Istanbul would also be a good option.
Because this year we had a holiday in Bulgaria, Sunny Beach, to be precise. I finally got around to write a review about this inexpensive Bulgarian resort.
I will try to do without unnecessary sentimentality and talk about Sunny Beach in essence: prices, hotels, cafes, excursions, beach, sea, etc.
Sea. Bulgaria. Sunny Beach.
I'll start with the most interesting for everyone who goes on vacation to Sunny Beach for the first time. From the beach and sea resort.
The beach of Sunny Beach is really good, and even luxurious. Fine golden sand, incredibly wide and very long beach strip, cleanliness.
The sea is in no way inferior in quality. We came to Sunny Beach on June 17 (2013) for a vacation, and for the first time the water didn’t please us too much - it was a little “green”, sea donkeys swam. Thankfully it didn't last forever. In the following days, the donkeys disappeared somewhere, and the greenery - although it appeared, but only with strong waves.
The entrance to the sea is gentle. Which is undoubtedly good for families with children in Sunny Beach. Shallow almost to the very buoys, swim over which the lifeguard whistles will not let you swim.
Umbrellas and sunbeds in 2013 cost 8 levs each. It is possible to bring your own towel, but the umbrellas are located so often that you will find yourself in the shade of one of them anyway, and you will be sent to the "free zone". It is located closer to the embankment, further from the sea. They clean the "free" sand not so often and not so diligently, but litter here more diligently. Keep in mind.
Beach in Sunny Beach
In general, the sea in Sunny Beach, as well as the beach deserve a rating of "5" on a five-point scale.
Bulgaria. Sunny Beach. Prices
The second question that most likely torments tourists planning a vacation in Sunny Beach is prices.
Let's start with the fact that Sunny Beach hotels do not work on an all-inclusive basis. The maximum you can expect is half board. So, you will often have to eat in the cafes and restaurants of the resort.
If you do not want to overpay, it is better to leave in search of a menu at adequate prices away from the embankment and the center of the resort. Seriously, in restaurants in Sunny Beach - those near the beach, prices are three times higher (and portions are smaller) than in cafes far from the center.
Never order cream soups in Bulgaria. For some reason, they are cooked here from some kind of dry mixture - a disgusting brew. Everything else is just delicious.
If you are self-driving to Sunny Beach and renting accommodation, you will probably be able to cook. The cheapest store in the resort is Mladost. I don't know the address, google will help you. This is a two storey supermarket. On the first floor - products, on the second - byt.khimiya, utensils and other needs.
You will also find low prices in Zora stores, Sunny Beach is simply replete with them. It is better (and cheaper) to buy fruits and vegetables in covered markets. Most of them are scattered far from the waterfront and the center.
Prices for excursions in Sunny Beach are very diverse. Often even more expensive than the options that your tour operators will offer you. On the central streets of the resort there are minibuses that offer not excursions - but the way to various Bulgarian cities. For example, you can go to Varna for 50 lev per adult.
Fares in Bulgaria are high because gasoline is expensive. From Sunny Beach, you can independently go to Sozopol, Burgas, Nessebar, St. Vlas, Varna, Plovdiv. And many small towns.
Sunny Beach bus schedule and fares are attached.
Bus ticket prices
Frankly, the bus schedule in Sunny Beach was not very successful. But you can still see the details.
Bus schedule. sunny Beach
A taxi in Sunny Beach will cost 3 leva per kilometer (if I understand correctly).
Renting a car in Sunny Beach will cost from 30 lev per day. The average rental price is about 60 leva per day, if you take it for a short time.
Souvenirs in Sunny Beach can be bought in a small wholesale store from the "back entrance" of the Kokiche hotel. Retail is also sold here: all kinds of cosmetics based on rose and lavender oil, woolen carpets, details of national costumes. A lot of everything.
In the same Mladost you can buy Bulgarian wine, cognac or brandy. Prices from 2 lev.
Hotels in Sunny Beach. Review
Sunny Beach, in my opinion, the place is simply "hellish". Crowds of drunken half-naked tattooed Germans. A huge number of clubs, discos and other noisy establishments.
An ideal place to stay if you come for parties and adventures.
But you can also relax with children in Sunny Beach. The main thing is to choose a hotel.
Those hotels that are located on the waterfront and in the center, for the most part, are not the best option. Only a few of them are located away from the noise and have a fairly large territory of their own.
The most popular hotels in Sunny Beach in the Russian tourist market: Chaika, Continental, Chrysanthemum, Planeta, Azuro, Thrace, Europe, Majestic, Neptune. But besides them, there are a huge number of other hotels, so do not be lazy to look. (). And even better - rent an apartment, because there are a huge number of apartments in Sunny Beach, there really is plenty to choose from.
We stayed at the Jasmine Hotel, a review of which is in a separate post.
Currency exchange in Sunny Beach
Currency should be changed only in banks or exchange offices "Crown" (with a crown symbol on a blue background).
Numerous exchange offices in Sunny Beach, which are not included in the above categories, are fraught with various dangers.
Personal example: we went to the exchange office on the embankment, carried away by the favorable rate - 1.94. We were quickly taken away Evrika and immediately issued a receipt for signature. The receipt was written course 1.61. Can you imagine the difference? The money was returned to us only after a huge scandal.
In a normal point, before picking up your money, you will be calculated on the calculator how much you will receive and show the amount. If you agree, you will be "exchanged".
In addition to the danger of an unexpected course, you may be charged a commission.
So don't risk it. It is best to change currency in the banks of Sunny Beach. We used Unicreditbank, where during our vacation there was the most favorable rate.
Excursions in Bulgaria. Sunny Beach.
From Sunny Beach, tourists first of all go to Nessebar. Pleasure is highly questionable. Nessebar today is nothing more than a well-promoted place.
Houses of Nessebar
Yes it Old city, yes - beautiful old houses, yes - the ruins of churches and temples. But all this is cluttered with numerous souvenir shops and tourists.
In any case, going from Sunny Beach to Nessebar is not far and inexpensive. And if you also sail on a boat (10 lev), then the excursion will turn out to be completely wonderful.
Worth a trip to Sozopol. Excursions to this glorious town will not allow you to fully get to know its narrow shady streets and indescribable atmosphere. It's better to go on your own.
chapel in sozopol
Sozopol - the same Nessebar (and let them scold me for this banal comparison) - but only without crowds of tourists and almost without souvenir shops. The old part of the city is a miniature peninsula (it will take you about five minutes to cross it across) with incredibly narrow, intertwining streets and lanes. Be sure to wander around the city to your heart's content, it is impossible to get lost here.
Houses in Sozopol
You can also go on an excursion from Sunny Beach to Ropotamo. And it's better in a group. Because there is a problem with transport to Ropotamo. Travel only with a change in Sozopol, and get back only by hitchhiking.
Bulgarian "Amazonka"
We tried to get into the Kalinata nature reserve, which, according to all the information found in RuNet, should have been located, I quote: “in the vicinity of the village of Kosharitsa”. Don't repeat our mistakes. The reserve is located a few kilometers from the village along a country road. And you can get there only by car, which we didn’t take into account at all, because we didn’t know.
The village of Kosharitsa itself is not of particular interest. Except for the fact that in Kosharitsa you can rent a house for a vacation in Sunny Beach. The drive to the village is only a few minutes, and it is located at the foot of Strandzha - beautiful, mountain air, rural Bulgarian architecture around. At the end of the village, or rather - about a kilometer from it - is the Sunset complex. Apartments are also rented here, I have no doubts. The place is nice, but keep in mind that if you are traveling without a car, you will have to get to the Sunset Apartments by bus, which goes to the complex only three times a day. Or walk from Kosharitsa.
I do not advise you to go far on excursions from Sunny Beach. Even to Burgas (about 30 km.), The bus takes about an hour.
High traffic congestion and travel through all the numerous villages along the coast do their job - it takes a long time to drive even a short distance. Renting a car is the best solution in my opinion.
Conclusions about the rest in the Sunny Beach resort
Sunny Beach is not Bulgaria. This is a resort complex in Bulgaria. You will hardly feel the country and its atmosphere.
If you are going beyond the sea and the sun (as the Germans do), then why not - cheap, excellent beaches, developed tourist infrastructure.
But if you want peace, more Bulgaria and fewer Germans, it is better to go to the southern resorts of Bulgaria. Locals praise Kranevo, Tsarevo and Albena very much, for example.
