What is sak yant. The path to Sak Yant: personal experience. How much does it cost to get a Sak Yant tattoo
The origin of Sak Yant began in medieval Cambodia, and later spread to all Southeast Asian countries. Since ancient times, sacred symbols have been inflicted on warriors as protection from injury and death. The shaman "bewitched" the drawing applied to the skin, endowing it with special powers that could protect the owner.
The meaning of Sak-Yant: "Sak" is translated as "stuffing", and "Yant" - "sacred". Yants are yantras, or mantras.
And its popularity among Americans and Europeans sak yant tattoo received thanks to Angelina Jolie, who demonstrated the ancient symbols on her back.
Features of the ceremony
The application of paint on the body and the ritual itself, associated with the reading of a prayer, is strictly observed to this day. Magic Sak Yant can be a kind of amulet or curse of its owner. The point is not only in the tattoo, but also in the commandments that must be observed after application. We are talking only about the Sak Yants inflicted by the monks, with the observance of the entire ritual, from beginning to end. It is a pity that Angelina did not see the true ceremonial.
If you want a tattoo “with true meaning” and are ready to undergo the ceremony, be responsible for the promises made to the master, then your path lies in the temple. The real masters of Sak Yanta live there - ajans, monks who have undergone special training. Only these people have the right to apply tattoos with sacred symbols. The teaching passes from master to student, literally by word of mouth. Random people, therefore, do not happen in monasteries.
First of all, you should talk to ajahn, talk about your plans, aspirations and dreams, about what you want to change in your life. Answer the monk’s questions in as much detail as possible, if you don’t finish something, blame yourself. Do not forget, tattoos are really mystical! Based on the wishes heard and the idea of you as a person, the master will offer options. You can ask to fill talismans for self-improvement, for the safety of property or body, as a talisman against any possible dangers, for wealth or fame, for happiness, family and others.

In reality, there are many hundreds of Sak Yants, these are just the most popular ones. Any tattoo ends with the application of an unalome and the recitation of a mantra in Pali or Sanskrit. The magic goes into the tattoo with the breath of a monk reciting a prayer. He “talks” the drawing and says parting words that from now on you can’t do it. In general, these are the main commandments: “do not steal”, “do not kill”, “do not commit adultery”, “do not lie”. It is impossible to break this promise, otherwise temple tattoo sak yant will lose miraculous properties and can even harm, according to the Thais.
How and how sacred tattoos are stuffed
The technology of "stuffing" Sak-Yants has not changed at all for many centuries. The body is covered with magic symbols using a reusable bamboo or steel stick, once spelled with an ajahn. They treat it with alcohol or fire, the old fashioned way. It takes from 15 minutes to several hours to create a composition. Magic tattoos are applied only to the waist, do not require special care and heal quite quickly. Sak Yanty is printed with black, red (as an addition to black) and colorless oil-based ink. By the way, many people believe that inconspicuous sak-yant tattoos the most magical, as they are hidden from everyone.
Tattoo Sak Yant literally means "sacred stuffing". While tattooing Sak Yant, the master shaman reads special prayers called kata. Tattoos made by shamans give extra strength. Sak Yant gained particular popularity after Angelina Jolie traveled to Asia, who made herself a traditional Thai tattoo.

- this is sacred drawings or tattoos, which are made in the countries of Southeast Asia, such as Thailand and Cambodia, containing Buddhist prayers and magic formulas that invoke various elements and forces, giving protection and blessing.
What
Sak (Sak) means "stuff" and Yant Yant (Yant) from Yantras meaning in Sanskrit “sacred geometric pattern, created in accordance with sacred geometric symbols”.
Sak Yant — a tattoo that each includes a prayer or blessing to the person who wears it.
For many centuries Buddhist monks did these tattoos and today they can only be done by men. A tattoo artist can tattoo a woman, but a true Buddhist Monk is forbidden to do so.
And buddhist prayers, written among and around the drawings (Yant), called on Thai - Kata .
Kata – this is the same, what we in the West used to call the word mantra (in Sanskrit - "prayer") . The ancient tradition of applying sacred Yants in the form of a tattoo has one, if not two thousand years.

Magic tattoos origin
The oldest documented evidence of the use of sak yants dates back to the reign of King Naresuan Maharaja, the golden age of the kingdom of Ayutthaya.
Warriors covered their bodies with tattoos in the form of Yant, in addition, they wore special shirts - Sueayant "xue yant" (outerwear with protective formulas applied to it, designed to reflect the blows of weapons).
Yants themselves are not the only element necessary for the sacred geometric symbols to be filled with magical power.
Recitation "Kata" is also an integral part of the process of activating the magical power contained in Yants.
Activation occurs through the transfer of "samadhi" and the visualization of the necessary elements that must be active in Yants.
The vow given when applying a magical tattoo
It is believed that the person applying the tattoo and the person who is tattooed must observe the five daily commandments:
don't kill
do not steal
do not lie
do not commit adultery
don't drink alcohol
which are the basic rules governing the life of any Buddhist.
The observance of these five precepts presupposes a certain level of moral purity, which is the key to maintaining magical power.

Magic tattoos modern tradition
It's funny, but despite their prevalence, sak-yants are precisely that part of the cultural tradition of the country, which almost always remains invisible to tourists, because rarely does anyone look at the tattoos of the local population - you never know who draws something on their body.
And even if someone pays attention to them and becomes interested, the language barrier will still make understanding almost impossible. But this is a very interesting and original tradition, which is worth learning about it in more detail.
The ancient art of Sak-yant appeared during the time when Ayutthaya was the capital of Thailand. After the country became Buddhist, the semantic content of tattoos changed somewhat, and the tradition of these tattoos merged with Buddhism so successfully that sak-yants are even sometimes called "temple tattoos"
Today, there are even separate monasteries that are famous for their sak-yanta masters.
For example, Nong Khim Monastery in Chiang Mai.
Alternative version of origin
However, there is an alternative version of the origin of the magical tattoos of sak-yants, whose adherents believe that it is an ancient Khmer tradition. They motivate their point of view by the fact that many Sak Yant masters use the Khmer alphabet for writing tattoo texts, and not Thai.
Mastery of sak-yant is passed down from the teacher, Ajyan(this word means "dear" and is applied in relation to a person who communicates with higher powers), to a student.
Sometimes there is something like family dynasties when a son becomes a student Ajyan who is trained and initiated by his father.
By definition, women cannot be sak-yant masters. At the same time, everyone who received a tattoo from Ajyan are considered to be his students.
It is considered bad form to receive sak-yants from different masters: all students of one teacher are considered a spiritual family, and changing Ajyan means betraying one's family.
Yanta – magic symbols- while not necessarily performed in the form of tattoos. In ancient Thailand, warriors even wore special shirts, all decorated with yants, protecting from weapons when they went into battle.
Now more common- this is pieces of paper or fabrics with a pattern applied to them, they can often be seen on the windshield of drivers of vehicles, sometimes yants are drawn directly on the dashboard or on the ceiling of the car.
The quality and method of applying a magical tattoo
It should be noted that the quality of magical tattoos varies greatly. Some are so terrible that they resemble the works of Russian tattoo artists made in places not so remote.
Others are very beautiful and amaze with the subtlety of the drawing. The detail of the drawing depends not only on the skill of Ajyan, but also on what tool the drawing is made with.
If it is made with bamboo (this is the traditional way), then the tattoo will a priori be rougher than steel needle - in the latter case, you can already count on filigree.
The prices for the work of sak-yant masters also vary greatly.
The more farangs (white foreigners) refers to the master, the higher the price for his services. For the same work, the price can vary from 100 baht to 500 dollars, depending on how famous the master is.

Sacred yants and their meaning
What is the meaning of sacred yants? Knowing the meaning and significance of yants increases their effectiveness.
The lines depicted in yants represent a direct connection with the Buddha and are traditionally known as "Yant Skeleton".
There are many different shapes of yant presented in a variety of shapes, such as round yant, triangular yant, four-sided yant, and even yant depicting something.
Round yanta- symbolizes the face of the Buddha (Pra Pakt Pra Putta Jao). In the Brahmin tradition, the main meaning is Brahma (Note: The concept of Brahma was taken from Brahmanism - the tradition of the Vedas, the god Brahma in the Vedas is the only Creator.
Early Buddhist texts, however, refer to the brahmas in the plural; they consider themselves omnipotent creators, the Buddha addresses them and corrects them. These Brahmas already differ in character from the Vedic Brahma.
One of the Brahmas (Great Brahma) considered in Buddhism as an object of worship for the Brahminists.
According to the Buddhist view, this Brahma is the first being that appeared after the death of the Universe, who, due to lack of memory or due to misunderstanding, considers himself the creator.
The Buddhist concept of Brahma has nothing to do with the Indian absolute. (Brahman, unlike Brahma ends in -n) as the universal life force or Ocean).
triangular yant- personifies the three jewels: Buddha, Dhamma and Sangha (Pra Put, Pra Tamm, Pra Songk). In the tradition of the Brahmins, he personifies the three gods (Shiva, Brahma, Vishnu).
Four-sided yant- personifies the four elements / continents (Earth, Water, Air and Fire).
Yant with images (animal)- represent various angels, people and mythical animals (Sathw Himapant).
Yanta Onk Pra represents the Buddha himself.
crescent image, which is located above the Onk Pra yanta, personifies the Moon, illuminating the Path in the era of decline (as I understand it, Kali Yuga is meant).
small circle(symbol of the sun) is very often depicted above the yants and symbolizes the sun illuminating the path in the daytime, another meaning is that all living beings, people and animals live under the influence of stars and planets and these forces force living beings to act.
zigzag spiral line at the top of the yanta is called Unalome. Unalome personifies the arhats who have attained enlightenment. Desires are overcome, their fetters are cast aside.
Yanta ends with the application unalome(applied at the top of the yanta). The tattooing process is completed with the recitation of the mantra (PraKataa) in Pali or Sanskrit, the power from the mantra enters the yanta through the breath during the recitation.
Most PraKataa ends with the phrase "Ma A U" (Ma A U), which means:
Ma means "MooMahaaSangkoe" (Sangha, community of monks)
A - means "Awrahang" (Buddha himself)
U stands for "Utamatammoe" (Dhamma, Buddha's teaching)
That. meaning of this kata (mantra/prayer)- three jewels: Buddha, Dhamma and Sangha.
There are also yants where numbers are used instead of symbols. Sometimes, in order to shorten the length of the Agkar (Khmer script), the yant artist may use numbers to convey the meaning of the PraKataa (mantra).
Finally, I got to the forest temple to capture the process and tell you about how and where it is better to get a magical Sak Yant tattoo. Sak Yant is not just an image on the body. This is a whole story, philosophy, magic and, if you like, a path. Before you do it, you need to find out all the details and ask yourself - do I want to change my life?
And if the answer is yes, then go ahead, reader follow me :)
Sak Yant - A tattoo that is filled with meaning
It was common for people at all times to decorate their bodies, only if in ancient times tattoos had a deep meaning: to drive away demons, save them, find love, happiness and health.
Genuine Sak Yant is really a chance and an opportunity for those who believe in a miracle, in magic and in the fact that there are other matters besides the rational.
However, I would advise even skeptics to think and try, especially if there is a real need and need for life to change, so that new colors, feelings, joys and strengths appear in it.
As a last resort, all the good things afterwards will be written off as a coincidence and an accident.
Magic tattoo Sak Yant - Where to get a real one?
A real Sak Yant even in Thailand is a big enough problem. There are not so many masters of Sak Yant - that is, people who have lived in monasticism for a certain number of years, studied, became masters, comprehended the essence of the universe and tormented the flesh with austerity, of course. There are many more charlatans.
Although it is hardly possible to condemn them - demand creates supply.
Anyone who wants not just a tattoo, but longs for change, I would advise you to go to the Forest Temple for answers to your questions, and not go to Volkin Street and stuff “real yant” there.
The real Sak Yant is a tattoo with a meaning that can only be filled in a temple.
Sak Yant is the name of tattoos with meaning, which arose more than 2000 years ago in order to protect warriors, bring good luck, success to the house, and prolong life.
In ancient treatises, cases are described how arrows on the battlefield did not touch those who had Sak Yants on their bodies that brought good luck in battle.
The popularity of Sak Yantu in the modern world was brought by Hollywood.
I think millions of people know that Angelina Jolie wears Sak Yant, which is called 5 lines (Hai Tiao) on her left shoulder. This is one of the most popular and powerful tattoos, which promises the owner the 5 most sought-after blessings of life.
Sak Yant at the temple at Ajahn Dam – A story about a trip
Today I went to a Buddhist temple and will tell you how everything happens so that you know in advance what to prepare for.
For Sak Yant, large groups are not recruited. This is not a water park or a circus, so a trip for a magical tattoo is an individual and thoughtful matter. Usually in a group there are from 1 to 4 people maximum.
We leave early in the morning, by car from Pattaya, picking up girls along the way who decided to take such a bold step today that (I'm sure) will change their lives.
The Forest Temple is a Buddhist male monastery, which is located a couple of hours from Pattaya, towards Rayong.
It is home to several male monks who have devoted their lives to service and faith, lead a modest and ascetic lifestyle and have neither wives nor children.
In Thailand, absolutely every man is required to be a monk. Two weeks is enough for someone, someone finds himself and the meaning of life in service.
In the temple where we are going today is a big holiday - the birthday of the chief monk, to whom we are bringing a festive cake and offerings.
In the forest temple
Time flies by unnoticed and the clock is already around 11 am, we drive up to the temple.
The weather is beautiful - a little rain is drizzling, a rather rare phenomenon for our latitudes and therefore desirable, at least a couple of hours it will be cool.
First, we climb the steps to the Buddha statues on the mountain to light candles and ask for blessings.
Candles are right there, free of charge, as well as a lighter left for this purpose by someone caring.
The Buddhist monastery is really located in the forest. For us - the inhabitants of civilization, this is certainly wild and strange. How can you voluntarily leave to live in such a wilderness?
We were in a hurry to make it before 11 am in order to have time to congratulate the chief monk.
The fact is that the monks wake up very early (at 3-4 in the morning) and their last meal is between 11 and 12 in the morning.
We managed just in time for the meal, which today is unusual, but festive:
Meaning of Sak Yant - which one to choose?
Those who are going to make a magical tattoo - Sak Yant, should remember that it carries not only magical properties, but also responsibility for them.
For owners of Sak Yant there are a number of rules that it is desirable to follow.
The Thais themselves take Sak Yant tattoos very seriously. If a person leads a hectic life, steals, cheats on his wife-husband, drinks, does not follow the commandments - he should not get this tattoo.
Ajahn - that is, the tattoo master Sak Yant, before getting a tattoo, will analyze your horoscope, and will tell you which qualities it is better for you to strengthen and which tattoo to refuse.
Ajahn Dam - Black Master
One of the girls with us in the group wanted to fill the dragon. But since she herself is extremely combative, with a strong character, Ajan Dam advised her not to do the dragon, but recommended to prick Kinnari, which, on the contrary, will soften her character and help find love and a husband.
Sak Yant – Kinnari
Let's talk a little about the meanings of Sak Yant and popular tattoos.
Dragon, tiger are popular tattoos that not only men want to do, but also women. Contrary to rumors, women may well fill themselves with both a dragon and a tiger, there are “testimonies” for this.
Tiger, dragon - symbolize wisdom, strength, attract wealth and courage.
(4500 baht)
The crocodile is a rare and unwanted tattoo. The crocodile is a symbol of quirky cunning, somewhere even unscrupulousness, it is usually pricked by men who run a dangerous and nervous business.
Thai girl Kinnari - surprisingly, Kinnari was made in this temple only 4 times, the girl who came with us was the fifth. A very beautiful drawing, the main meaning of which is to successfully marry a girl out of great and mutual love. That is, it is a symbol of marriage, long and happy.
Tattoos with a male organ - everything is clear here. A symbol of male energy, endless success with women, male power until old age. It is for Europeans that the male genital organ causes a smile and looks indecent, for Asians such Sak Yant is quite common and does not raise any doubts.
Khao Yot - 9 Spires - If you have been to Thailand, you have probably seen this Sak Yant more than once. I had such a drawing, for example, in a rented car. 9 spiers are Sak Yant of protection and good luck, a symbol of a strong family, the foundation of Sak Yant tattoos. Often it is she who is advised first by the master. Done at the base of the neck. (2000 baht)
Hai Tiao - 5 lines - The most popular tattoo, most often among women. I have already spoken about Angelina Jolie, I will explain in more detail about the 5 lines themselves.
Sak Yant - 5 lines in Pali
Line 1 - the mantra of peace and tranquility in the house, in the family.
Line 2 - helps you find your way, tells you your purpose in life.
Line 3 - protection from evil people, spirits, troubles and disasters.
4 line - universal luck
Line 5 - Pure and mutual love
(1500 baht)
In the forest temple, Ajahn has thousands and hundreds of Sak Yant tattoos to choose from, so his eyes run wide.
Here are just a few of them:
SNAKE Sak Yant - For finding the second half forever
How is a Sak Yant tattoo done?
I think many of you have heard that Sak Yant will certainly be pricked with a special bamboo stick, but this is not so.
Yes, this tradition has been preserved and is still alive at festivals and in some monasteries, but even advanced Thais no longer prick themselves with a stick, only with a typewriter. Why? And why do we use disposable syringes, do anesthesia when going to the doctor, sterilize manicure devices in the salon - this is safety, yours and the masters.
The magic of a tattoo is not affected in any way by the way it is applied. The most important thing is the master. The person who fills you with a tattoo so that he is real and follows all the rules, and there are many of them and certainly they have nothing to do with a tattoo machine.
For those who still persist and want a tattoo with a bamboo stick with an iron tip, I will say. The wand is not sterilized, at best it is rubbed with alcohol and endlessly dipped in a saucer with paint in which the blood of a dozen people floats. Do you want this? I would not recommend :)
The argument is “well, all these people are definitely not sick, would they take such risks?” In my opinion, quite naive and childish. Nobody canceled HIV, hepatitis B and C.
Master Ajahn Dam - which means Black Master, uses a modern tattoo machine with disposable needles. Infa 100%, I looked at everything and took a picture especially for the doubters.
In addition, he himself is wearing gloves and all accessories are disposable and are not reused. Paint or oil is diluted in a jar at one go.
How long does a Sak Yant tattoo last?
You will be surprised, but the process itself is surprisingly fast. We will return to the issue of magic, but even I, (a big skeptic), was shocked by how the tattoo heals instantly. I see this for the first time, although I myself have a tattoo.
Having made Sak Yant, you can swim on the first day and do everything that you did before. The tattoo immediately looks like it was made a few weeks ago - a clear, healed, master's hand!
Does Sak Yant hurt?
No, it's quite tolerable. Even a big tiger, which one of the girls stuffed herself with oil, took the master no more than 15-20 minutes.
Sak Yant - the whole process step by step
Why am I emphasizing what Sak Yant should be done with a dedicated master. Because then it makes sense, otherwise it's just a pretty picture.
After you have chosen a sketch, Ajahn calculates your date of birth, asks questions and decides what to advise you and what not.
Getting a tattoo
After application, the master reads a prayer while holding his hands on your Sak Yant and “blowing” mantras there, speaking the tattoo
If the tattoo is 5 rows, with color, on top to enhance the effect of the tattoo, a piece of gold is glued, which also speaks.
What color are Sak Yant tattoos
The main colors of Sak Yants are black and red.
You can order a tattoo of any color, but the classics are black and red, and also white.
Colorless - transparent Sak Yant
For those who are not ready to answer the question all their lives - “what is it that you have pricked here”, there is a variant of a colorless, transparent tattoo.
Surprisingly, a transparent Sak Yant tattoo is considered stronger and more powerful, precisely because it is invisible to others.
Transparent Sak Yant is pricked with a special monastic oil, which is made by hand in the monastery, many times spoken with mantras and prayers.
Nobody will see this tattoo. The sketch will be erased, the swelling from the needle will subside and it will dissolve on your body, only you will know what it is and what it means.
At a price, transparent Sak Yant is cheaper than color.
Transparent Sak Yants are made even for children to protect them from evil and misfortune.
How much does Sak Yant cost in the master's temple?
If you have already been interested in the topic, then you probably know that the prices for Sak Yant vary greatly. The forest temple to which we went is considered very respected among Thais and people who understand this.
Not least because it is not a tourist attraction, there is no task to rob a farang and the price for Thais is the same as for a local, prices are affordable and start at 500 baht. The maximum cost of Sak Yant for the whole back, as far as I know, is about 15-20,000 baht.
At the same time, the “party” of Sak Yant does not like Ajan, who tattooed Angelina Jolie and after this good luck got up and began to work for himself.
80,000 baht for a tiny Yant will scare anyone away and the Thais condemn such self-interest.
The cost of a trip to the forest temple depends on how many people are in the group.
This is a private guided tour.
The prices are:
3800 baht - 1 person
2600 baht - 2 people
2200 baht - 3 people.
(Price per person).
So as you can see, it is beneficial to cooperate. If there are more people, the price will probably be even lower.
The Sak Yant tattoo ritual requires compliance with the rules, namely, offerings to the monks are also needed. In this case, lotuses, candles and a small donation (50-100 baht). The organizer will help you with lotuses and the rest.
The Sak Yant tattoo itself depends on what you choose, on color and size.
It is worth mentioning that the fake sak yants that you will be offered in urban tattoo parlors are several times more expensive and do not carry any semantic load.
How long did we stay in the temple?
Talking with the organizer, I realized that each trip is individual. We were lucky and we got to the birthday of the chief monk, and Buddhists, as you know, are in no hurry. The Sak Yants themselves were made in no more than an hour, but the ceremonies before and after, the unhurried elections, the communication, it all took several more hours.
Total - the way there and back, the process, I was at home by 17 o'clock. They usually arrive earlier.
Gifts and wishes come true
The coolest thing is that everyone who comes to the forest temple not only brings gifts, but also leaves with gifts themselves.
The head monk is generous, and very often gives amulets to visitors, treats, and other things that bring health and good luck.
We've been incredibly lucky. We got on his birthday and he cut off and gave us a piece of his cassock (which Buddhists call Kashaya), on which mantras are written for good luck and success in business.
Kashaya is a Buddhist robe for a reason of this color (from orange to brown).
It is believed that in ancient times, ascetic Buddhists simply picked up old clothes, faded and yellowed from old age, as a sign of respect for the Buddha himself, who, according to legend, sewed Kashaya for himself from discarded worn-out things, sometimes found at crematoria, cleaned them with saffron and from for this they acquired an orange color.
Kashaya means muted color.
Kashaya, which was worn for many years by the chief monk of the forest temple, is a very valuable thing, since it has been spoken and prayed for thousands of times, it carries a lot of positive energy and is very desirable among Buddhists, especially as a gift from the hands of an enlightened one.
The donated piece should be kept and carried with you all the time, and in case of an important meeting, event, desire, just hold it in your palms and focus on your desire.
We were also presented with Thai Buddhist amulets, which are made by the monks in the temple and which every Thai has.
Surely you have noticed how men wear them in whole bunches. Amulets made of clay, silver or wood are placed in a waterproof box for safekeeping.
What are your impressions from the trip for Sak Yant?
As you can see, the story about the trip turned out to be huge, there are even more impressions behind the scenes. For those who doubt I will say - do not hesitate, go. This will change your life.
If for some reason you cannot have a catchy, colored tattoo, do it with oil, hide it from prying eyes.
The energy of this place is definitely off the charts. I am very glad to meet the monks and masters of Sak Yant.
Ajahn Dam is just a bunch of positive energy, such a smiling and cool guy!
His guest that day was another respected master Sak Yanta, who looked like a pirate :)
The guys radiate so much friendliness, sincere interest and love for this world.
The girls who made Sak Yant for themselves shared their impressions and said that all this was very unusual and strange. For example, during prayer, one felt pressure on her head (when special masks-hats are put on), although the master simply held them. in another, the tattoo itched at the place of application, and after the prayer it immediately disappeared.
But the general impression is a lot of positive, some kind of crazy supply of energy and food for thought, everyone was satisfied, especially since on this trip you can learn something new about yourself, get answers to various questions.
Where to do Sak Yant - who to contact for a ride?
If you also want to change the course of your life, find what you want, get answers to your questions, find a way, then write in the comments, I will give you the contacts of the organizers with whom you can go to the forest temple.
I look forward to your comments after the trip, share stories!
A tattoo depicting a shaman means a person's connection with nature, the unity of the material and spiritual worlds, a talisman against diseases, misfortunes and evil spirits, harmony, successful hunting and harvest.
The meaning of the shaman tattoo
Shamanism, whose history goes back to the Paleolithic period, is the oldest art of communication with the world of spirits and is aimed at the most natural understanding of the world, the study of the process of communication between people and nature.
Scientists in this field are sure that the shaman is primarily called upon to heal his people from any misfortunes and ailments. However, the functions of the shaman are very wide. In addition to healing, he must protect his tribe from misfortune and trouble, supporting its economic structure. Communicating with the spirits of nature, the shaman asks them for plenty of game and harvest. Thus, the shaman is obliged to ensure harmony and balance in the world.
The traditional shaman, in addition to the above, could search for disappeared objects and people, accompanied the souls of the dead to the afterlife, predicted the future and made conspiracies against dark forces. If the shaman abused his gift out of selfish motives or caused evil, then he was called a sorcerer.
In the modern world, the shaman keeps the customs and rituals of his ancestors, uses various practices to summon spirits. For this reason, a tattoo with the image of a shaman is chosen by extraordinary people who believe in nature and higher powers.
The shamanic worldview testifies that the whole material world is inhabited by spirits, each of which has its own peculiarity and ability. Shamans are strongly connected and united not only with nature, but also with the cosmos, they gain strength, help and advice in the spiritual world.
As for tattoos depicting a shaman, drawings of a similar theme are true talismans and amulets. Complementing the image of a shaman with various details, you can get powerful wearable protection. However, erroneously pierced shamanic symbols can only bring trouble to a person, making him unhappy, if the owner of the tattoo sincerely believes in shamanism and the culture of ancestors.
Basically, tattoos depicting shamans are complemented by various bright ornaments or images of totem animals. Previously, it was believed that the shaman could turn into such an animal at will, while intricate patterns actually endowed him with certain abilities, including the ability to communicate with the world of spirits. For this reason, images of shamans dressed, for example, in the skin of a wolf, are often found in tattoo images. In this case, the meaning of the drawing will be expanded due to the symbolic meaning of the animal itself.
Much less often in the shamanic theme of tattoos, you can find special letters, since each of these signs has its own meaning, and not every person is able to understand it correctly. Even one wrong letter can radically change the symbolism of the tattoo.
It is worth noting that a truly shamanic tattoo is very different from the traditional drawings offered in the salons. A real tattoo depicting a shaman and shamanic signs should not be interpreted in two ways, it has one single meaning, which is the appointment of the shaman himself. Otherwise, the idea of such a drawing will be lost.
