Do-it-yourself water supply from a well to the country house
A person is so arranged that he usually does not stop at what he has achieved. Having built a well in the country with his own hands, he begins to think that the water supply from this well will make his life in the country more pleasant and easier. If so, then get to work. First, let us briefly recall how the well was built on the site.
First, the dowsing method found a place where the aquifer comes close to the surface. With the help of two frames made of wire, the site was surveyed and in the place where the frames began to spin and intersect, a test well was drilled with a hand drill. At a depth of 2.7 meters, the keys were hammered in the well. Small, but confirming the proximity of water and sufficient in volume to fill the well. The depth of the aquifer can be determined using a ruler and a golden ring on a string - in the place found with the help of the frames, put a ruler on the ground and slowly draw a ring over it. The ring will begin to swing over a figure equal to the depth of the formation (based on 1 cm = 1 m). The old method, however, works!
Starting to dig a hole, we were convinced that the walls were crumbling intensively. We stopped at a depth of about 1 m and put the first concrete ring with a metal knife and pins at the bottom. We continued to dig, using the ring to strengthen the walls of the pit. Then lowered the second ring. We bought, on the advice of specialists, concrete rings with a thorn-groove system. They are closer to each other and there is no displacement in the horizontal plane. The verticality of the walls of the shaft of the future well was constantly checked with a plumb line. When the third ring rose, we were already ankle-deep in water. Dirt and water had to be constantly pumped out with a mud pump. This was the hardest part of the job.
We got 6 rings. We can say that we were lucky - the aquifer was very close to the surface. A linen rope was laid between the rings, then the seams were sealed with a mixture of cement and liquid glass. The well's water collector was cleaned of dirt and covered with a layer of gravel of about 10 cm. The walls of the well's column were fastened with brackets and painted with oil paint. It was at that moment that it was necessary to break through the inlet for the water intake pipe of the future water supply from the well!
A clay castle was made around the well and the clay was overlaid with turf and decorative stone. The castle ended below the freezing depth of the soil and additional insulation of the tracks was not required. The “house” for the head of the well was bought in a store in the form of a classic log house, which is traditionally placed on wells in villages.
It is a pity that they did not immediately decide to carry out water supply from the well to the house - they could avoid additional work. However, after clarifying the cost of drilling a well for water, all doubts disappeared. Moreover, you can do the plumbing from the well with your own hands.
Choosing plumbing material and tools
Below is a possible scheme for a water supply system for giving from a well:
First of all, we determine the type of pump for our water supply. Having listened to the recommendations of the sales assistant, we stopped at a pumping station consisting of a self-priming centrifugal pump, a hydraulic accumulator, a control unit, an idle speed sensor and a network fluctuation protection device. Network jumps happen all the time. The ability of a surface pump to lift water from a depth of up to 10 m is enough for us. The performance of the pump was determined based on the number of water intake points, including watering the site, and a consumption of about 10 liters per minute for each point. Water is pumped into the accumulator, after which the pump is turned off. Water intake is carried out from the tank of the accumulator. When the water level in the tank drops to a certain level, the pump automatically turns on.
For laying the water supply, we chose metal-plastic pipes. First of all, because of the ease of installation. The main thing is that they are easy to bend, and they are connected with special fittings - very convenient and fast. Such pipes are resistant to mechanical damage and corrosion. Pipes and all shut-off and control equipment were purchased at a specialized store. To work on laying a water pipe from a well, we needed:
-
Connecting elements for pipes.
Gate valves.
Brackets.
-
Faucets.
Mesh filter.
gas key.
Perforator.
Bulgarian.
Metal-plastic pipes Ø32 mm.
Pumping station.
Installing and connecting the pumping station
The basement of the house was chosen as the location of the pumping station. Convenient access for maintenance and quiet noise in the house is not audible at all. For the intake pipe, we had to dig a trench below the freezing depth of the soil (we dug about a meter deep) and drill the wall of the concrete ring with a perforator. The trench was dug with the recommended slope towards the well. We “dressed” the metal-plastic pipe in a polystyrene foam heat-insulating shell with an outer coating.
Having broken through the inlet, a pipe was brought in, bent and lowered down so that 30 cm remained to the gravel layer. At that time, water was pumped out of the well.
The end of the pipe was fixed to a pin driven into the bottom. Also installed an inlet strainer. It was quite difficult to close up the inlet in the concrete ring. We used a homemade mixture of Ceresit tile adhesive with liquid glass and covered the hole inside and out twice. Expanded clay was poured into the trench (this is, rather, for complacency) and soil was covered. After that, the clay castle and the upper decorative layer were restored. And we refused to lay a water heating cable.
The requirement for the temperature in the room (+ 2 ° C), where the pumping station for water supply from the well is installed, was not difficult to fulfill - the house is heated in winter, the basement is insulated. Before entering the pump, a coarse filter and a check valve were installed. A fine filter is installed at the outlet. The station itself is connected to the control panel. A pressure gauge and a pressure switch were connected behind the fine filter.
Plumbing
After the pumping station, the pipe is inserted into the collector and further to the water intake points. Laying water pipes from metal-plastic pipes is simple. A special disc is put on the grinder and the pipe is cut with it. There is also a special tool, but it makes no sense to buy it for a one-time job. For connections, there are fittings in which the inside has a rubber seal. This seal ensures the tightness of the connection. The connection is fixed with a compression ring with a union nut.
Connecting water intake points is also easy. For these purposes, a different type of fitting with a threaded part is used to connect equipment. The other part for connecting the pipe has a rubber seal. Beforehand, a chamfer is removed from the end of the pipe so that the fitting enters without displacement of the sealing rings.
Distribution of water supply pipes in the country
For summer cottages, it is recommended that pipes be laid at an angle so that water can be drained from the system before leaving in the fall. To do this, lay water pipes, starting from the bottom and moving up. In some ways, the wiring diagram resembles a tree - there is a trunk and “branches” of pipes diverge from it to all water intake points.
Hot water supply is arranged from a storage electric water heater and is also made of metal-plastic pipes.
Important! Be sure to save the water supply scheme, including indicating the route of the water intake pipe from the well and the depth of the trench. You will definitely need this information when building new structures on the site.
The missed opportunity to combine the work of building a well with laying water from the well to the house forced us to perform an additional amount of work. But even taking into account the digging of a new trench for laying a water intake pipe and drilling an inlet in a concrete ring, labor and financial costs are disproportionately less than the costs of installing a water supply system from a well on the site. With the same end result.
