How to build a barn with your own hands video
At the word shed, everyone has their own idea of \u200b\u200bthis outbuilding on the site. Someone sees a temporary building, blown by all the winds, in which nothing but shovels and rakes is stored.
And someone thinks that a barn is not only a room for storing tools and bicycles, but also a workshop, and a temporary vegetable store, and a cellar, and a sofa for relaxing there is not a sin to put.
Building a barn: from simple to complex
The idea of how to build a barn arises at the first glance at the newly acquired site. There is nothing even in the plans yet, but we are already estimating where the first buildings will be located: a yard toilet (no way without it!) And a simple wooden shed.
It makes no sense to immediately build outbuildings of brick, aerated concrete blocks or timber. More than once your building plans will change, and a shed out of place will pretty much spoil your nerves. Only after the final approved project can the construction of a capital utility block be started.
Such buildings do not require special skills and strict adherence to technology: as experience shows, this is a temporary structure and only a few requirements are imposed on it:
- You have to build fast.
- The foundation is the simplest. Shallow pits (0.5 x 0.5 x 0.5 m) are dug in the corners of the barn, covered with sand and rammed. Then lay out the columns of bricks.
Sometimes logs or sleepers impregnated with used oil are used.
- Then a frame is built. To do this, a beam of the lower trim is laid on the posts, vertical racks are installed on it and fastened at the top with the same beam.
To quickly build a barn with your own hands, no one builds a complex truss system. At first, it is enough to build a barn with a pitched roof.
For this, the racks of one wall, usually the front, are made higher than the back. Beam-rafters are attached to the racks and interconnected by a crate of unedged boards. It is advisable to fasten the boards with a continuous flooring so that the roofing felt lasts longer.
- Building a barn inexpensively is the second requirement. To save money, unedged lumber is used for both walls and roofs. The doors and windows of a simple barn should not be made to order, you can use used ones or do it yourself. Building a barn with your own hands gives the greatest savings. To properly build a barn, you do not need any special knowledge and skills, you can save money on craftsmen.
Using the same technology, you can build a barn from corrugated board. Such a barn has both positive and negative sides. Large sheet sizes allow you to quickly cope with this task, the appearance of corrugated board cannot be compared with a wall of boards. It does not need to be protected from rain and snow, unlike wood. But building a barn will cost more - this is a minus.
With the development and arrangement of the summer cottage, the barn made of boards, which until recently was a building of first necessity, becomes a burden and does not decorate the appearance of the site at all.
The place for the new building has already been determined, and it's time to think not only about how to build a barn in the country. With the rise in the cost of materials used, the cost of construction comes to the fore.
It is much cheaper to build a barn from boards, sleepers or corrugated board than a barn from brick or foam blocks. The responsibility for violations of technology is also growing. Without a quality foundation, the walls will crack, and it will be impossible to answer the question: “How much does it cost to build a barn?” Just because every year you will need to invest in the repair of walls.
How to build a timber shed
A barn made of timber is already a different level of prices and responsibility. It cannot be built by eye simply because the cost of a beam is incomparable with the cost of an unedged board, and all work, from the foundation to the roof, requires certain building skills.
You can build a barn from a bar with your own hands, only strictly observing the technology of work at all stages.
- For such a barn, and this is almost a small house, a project is needed. It makes no sense to order it from specialists, it is enough to determine the dimensions of the building, its location, the presence of partition walls, the material of the roof, etc.
- Having decided on the size, proceed to the construction of the foundation. Since the beam has large linear dimensions, and the walls made of it and similar materials (logs, sleepers) do not crack, you can choose any type of foundation depending on the characteristics of the soil, the depth of freezing, the level of groundwater, as well as the preferences of the owner.
Pillar foundation is the most popular choice. In addition to being easy to do on your own, it allows you to build a barn inexpensively, since the cost of materials for such a foundation is minimal. You will need sand, cement, crushed stone and rebar.
As a formwork, you can use a roofing material rolled into a cylinder (budget option) or an asbestos-cement pipe (more reliable).
Construction sequence:
- We remove the vegetation layer and mark the location of the pillars: always at the corners and at the intersections of the walls, then evenly after 1.5 - 3 m.
- With the help of a garden drill, we make wells to a depth slightly below the freezing level.
- We make a sand cushion about 20 cm.
- We lower a cylinder of roofing material or an asbestos-cement pipe into the well.
- We insert a pre-welded or wire-bonded frame of 3 rebars and pour concrete. Fill in all the other columns in the same way. The foundation is ready.
1. The assembly of walls from a bar begins with the laying of a strapping crown. Waterproofing (roofing material in several layers) and bars impregnated with an antiseptic are laid on the posts.
At the corners they are connected "in half a tree" and fixed with dowels. Then a heater (jute or tow) and the bars of the next row are laid on the timber. In the corners, the bars are connected in several ways, more often "in the paw". This allows in the future to additionally insulate the barn and sheathe it with siding without any problems.
The crowns are interconnected with dowels. To do this, several holes are drilled in each crown through three beams and wooden “sticks” with a diameter of 3-4 cm are inserted. Their length should be less than the depth of the hole so that no cracks form during shrinkage.
2. Having brought the height of the walls to the desired size, lay the beams and lay the floor, even if you want to build a barn with a shed roof.
You can make it more abruptly and a small attic room is formed for storing garden tools in winter. But a gable roof is more practical.
We build a barn from sleepers
Similarly, sheds are built from logs and sleepers. To build a barn from sleepers, and they can also be considered as beams, you will have to work hard. Sleepers do not have such strict dimensions as sawn timber. It is unlikely that it will be possible to assemble an even wall from them. It will be necessary to select sleepers of the same thickness for each crown, it is difficult to mark them for corner joints.
Creosote-impregnated sleepers are durable, but the smell will not disappear very soon. In addition, they are difficult to process: saws quickly become dull.
It is clear that the sleepers have an unsightly appearance and require additional finishing costs.
Unfortunately, before building a barn in the country, we have to think about its ability to resist burglary. This is especially true for those who visit the country irregularly. The best option in this case would be to build a brick or block shed. The construction process is the same in both cases, but it is much cheaper and easier to build a barn from foam blocks.
We build the foundation
A solid barn needs a solid foundation. Blocks or bricks can no longer be laid on posts. The strip foundation in this case is the most suitable option.
It is done as follows:
- We remove the fertile layer and mark the trench with a width of 0.4 -0.5 m. We observe right angles!
- We dig a trench at least 0.8 -1 m deep and fill it with sand by 30 - 40 cm. We spill it with water and ram.
- We install formwork. Its height above the ground is not less than 20 cm.
- We lay a reinforcing cage, consisting of at least two rows of longitudinal bars, at the bottom and top of the foundation.
- We concrete the entire foundation tape in one go.
After waiting until the concrete hardens (3 weeks), we proceed to the construction of walls. Bricklaying is a complex process, it is better to entrust this work to a professional. And the foam blocks are quite capable of laying with their own hands. You can build a barn inexpensively, and acquire useful building skills. A description of the process with step-by-step instructions is not a problem to find on the Internet.
It is better to complete such a barn with a mansard-type roof: broken or gable. It's a pity if the attic space is empty. There you can arrange everything that your imagination tells you.
