Imitation of a wax seal with your own hands. How to use wax seals correctly Make a wax seal at home
Once upon a time, only persons of royal blood and noble nobles had a personal seal. You can take the advice of the author below and make such an unusually interesting thing for your personal use. It can come in handy for sealing your own hand-made wedding or anniversary invitations, you can also use it in decoupage and other types of hand-made needlework. For people working on a commercial basis, it is generally indispensable - you do not need to make name tags for your work, just take a jute twine and hang an imprint of your personal seal on the product instead of a tag.
For work, you need to prepare the following materials and tools:
1. A small piece of flat wooden stick. The author advises using a small piece from a shovel handle, which can be bought at building supermarkets.
2. The adhesive tape is not wide.
3. A simple pencil.
4. A picture of the future print printed on the printer.
5. A collet knife or a small, thin, sharp knife.
6. Burner for wood.
7. Sandpaper.
8. Soft rags.
9. Napkins.
10. Vegetable oil.
11. Drying oil.
12. Brush for applying drying oil.
13. Matches.
14. Sealing wax or wax candle.
1 step.
To begin with, we carefully process a piece of stick with sandpaper. Especially carefully we will grind the end side on which we plan to place the print. Then, using a collet knife, very carefully cut out the picture of the previously printed print.
The author recommends printing a blank for printing on thick paper. Making a template for future printing is painstaking work that will require your full concentration. Something like this should look like a neatly cut blank for printing:
2 step.
Then we apply the cut out pattern to the end side of the previously prepared stick, fix it with adhesive tape and paint over the wooden surface with a pencil through the cut pattern on paper. It is very important not to forget that the template blank must be applied in a mirror image, otherwise you will get an incorrectly positioned print.
This is what you should get as a result of painting:
3 step.
Then, with a burning device, we carefully burn the tree according to the drawn pattern, while trying to burn the tree to the same depth.
4 step.
Now you need to process the blank for printing with drying oil. Then carefully wipe the workpiece with a rag and leave it to dry for 24 hours.
After the drying oil is completely dry, your seal is ready for use. You can imprint your personal seal on sealing wax, wax, paraffin, and even use hot glue from a thermal gun for these purposes. This glue comes in different colors, so try and experiment. But keep in mind that sealing wax will be the strongest and most durable. In order to make an impression of a seal on wax, light a candle and drip hot wax where, according to your idea, there should be a name seal.
Wax should be given a little time to cool slightly. This time is approximately 15-20 seconds. At this time, dip the seal in vegetable oil, gently blot excess oil with a napkin.
Then firmly press the seal to the slightly cooled wax and leave it like that until it hardens completely.
So, having scoured the Internet, I found several ways to weld sealing wax. The only problem with them is that they are all written in the style of "you need an owl's butt, and fifteen ounces of dried Akua." Of course we don't have that in the city. And you know, I decided to write a recipe literally suitable for everyone - from residents of megacities and small towns to residents of completely remote Siberian villages.
So, if you are in the city, you need to go to an electrical store and buy a hundred grams of rosin there. Next, go to Auchan or any such store where you can buy a cocotte maker and a candle for 10 rubles (the composition is usually wax and paraffin). Kokotnitsa is such a tin bottle with a handle, we will cook everything in it. You also need to buy either baby chalk or tooth powder. then we go to the stationery store where they sell oil paints for artists and buy a tube of red ocher there.
We go home, take a small saucepan, pour water, put on gas. We take a cocotte maker, pour 50 grams of rosin there, cut off a piece of about three centimeters from a candle and shove it there, literally a pinch of chalk or tooth powder and put the cocotte maker in a saucepan with water. Well, let's cook! when everything melts the brew, you need to start constantly stirring which thread with a wooden stick (hello sushi bar!). When the mixture finally becomes liquid and homogeneous, squeeze the paint out of the tube there. Approximately the same amount as you squeeze out on a toothbrush every morning (but if you are a miser - two centimeters of a strip). and continue to stir. then we put a kitchen tack on the left hand, a disposable bag on top of it. with the other hand, we fold the paper into a tube, put it on another piece of paper and hold it with the hand that is in a mitten and a bag. Next - we take the cocotte with pasatizh and smoothly pour our beauty into this tube. Attention - the tube must be held well so that it does not flow from below and from the sides. After hardening, we separate the tube from the paper, melt it with a lighter, drip onto the paper, and then you know.
For those who live in the countryside or in Siberia. Everything is simple. We take wax in the church. Or a local beekeeper. For rosin - we stomp into the pine forest, collect pine resin, preferably dry. Instead of a cocotte maker, we use a half with a bottom from an aluminum can. Mel .. well, ask the local school for a piece, it's enough for your eyes. To be honest, I don’t know why he is needed in the squad and I’m sure that everything will work out without him. And the most interesting - red ocher. Take a skin (sandpaper) and go to the barn in search of the most hopelessly rusty piece of iron =) And start sanding it over a newspaper. Pick up 20 grams of rusty powder - excellent - this is the same red ocher. But ideally, it would still have to be ground in a mortar so that it completely turned into dust. Well, follow the recipe I gave above.
Give letters, bottles, gifts, seal them with sealing wax and enjoy the surprise on their faces =) Good luck, friends!)
We are often asked questions about
how to put a wax seal at home?
In this video-MK, we presented one of the ways to use it at home. postal wax.
We will need:
- candle
- a large tablespoon (which you don't mind ruining!), it's better not to use aluminum, it heats up quickly. Ideal spoon with a wooden handle, as in our video
- oil in a convenient container for dipping the seal
- cotton pad, we put a seal of oil on it, so that the excess drains
Place a wax seal
So let's get started:
- We light a candle
- The print can be immediately dipped in oil. This is done so that the seal does not stick to the sealing wax. If you do not want to use oil, then you will need to wait a bit for the sealing wax to cool down before making an impression - then it will not stick to the seal.
- We take a spoon and put a little sealing wax on it, after the first print you will clearly understand how much you need to put it)
- Before melting, the seal can be placed on a cotton pad to drain excess oil.
- We place a spoon with sealing wax over the flame of a candle. As you know, the hottest temperature of a flame is at its very top, so hold your spoon over the top of the fire and try not to come into contact with it, otherwise your whole spoon will be smoky. You can quietly rotate the spoon in different directions, thereby ensuring the fastest melting of sealing wax and preventing it from boiling. Continue these steps until all the sealing wax has melted into a homogeneous mass.
- Melted sealing wax melted on a spoon is dripped in a suitable amount onto paper, the droplet should be approximately the diameter of the seal, let it cool for 10 seconds and then press on the sealing wax with a seal. Try to apply moderate pressure so that the print does not mix to the sides and the future print is not deformed.
- We leave the seal in the sealing wax until it cools completely and only then we take it out.
Peculiarities how to put a wax seal. Oil (or can be replaced with water) is used only so that the seal does not stick to the sealing wax. You can learn how to make a wax seal without oil (water), but this requires a lot of experience, so we recommend using this "trick" for now.
We have tried to tell you as much as possible. put a wax seal. We wish you creative success and excellent mood!
Wax seal in history has always helped to keep the sacrament of correspondence. Despite the fact that today its primary functionality has lost its meaning, it is still able to bring benefits, but rather of an aesthetic nature. Most often, wax seals are used as an element of decoration for personal correspondence, sending out invitations to events, as well as in the design of gifts.
What is this type of printing?
A wax seal is a mechanism that includes a wooden handle and a brass nozzle. With the help of the surface of this nozzle, it becomes possible to apply any pattern. A sample of the planned print is developed independently by its future owner. You can create several different interchangeable nozzles.
The impression of a wax seal is made on a preheated sealing wax. In the place where it is planned to put the stamp, it is necessary to drop the substance, and then press the seal with a brass nozzle.
Types of wax used for printing
Several types of sealing wax have been developed for sale. The very first of them is a candle and a wick. This type of candle is lit and the required material is melted to the surface. This method is considered the most expensive when compared with others. It is used when it is necessary to send someone, for example, an envelope with a wax seal in one copy.
Another common type will be a wax gun as an alternative to a candle. But it is the cheaper option. When using it, disposable wax rods are used. This variation will be ideal for sending outgoing mail.
Sealing wax can be produced in granular form, as well as in lump form. Working with such material will be difficult and long-term, so this technique is resorted to in rare cases.
How to make a wax seal with your own hands?
To make a wax seal at home, you will need the following materials: a block of wood, sandpaper, a tool used for woodcarving, adhesive tape, paint, and sealing wax itself.
The place on the wooden block, which will later become a seal, must be sanded with sandpaper. It should be smooth, without residual roughness, as it will subsequently affect the print. Next, you need to measure the diameter of the material in order to complete the drawing in the appropriate proportions. There must be free space between the image and the border of the circle. You can choose any form for printing, you should not limit yourself to only classic options.
A simple option for choosing an image is to print the design you like from a computer. Then the pattern is carefully cut out along the contour, mirrored and applied to the bottom of the bar. If desired, it can be secured with tape for reliability. The image after the performed actions must be circled along the contour lines.
With the help of a burning device, the image must be processed, trying to penetrate as deep as possible. The lines after that should have the same depth and width.
Then the bar is painted and left overnight to dry completely. The resulting excess stain or paint is removed with a napkin. The wax seal is ready for use and you can start testing it. The sealing wax is ignited and melted over a pre-prepared paper or envelope. It is not necessary to drip a large amount, the spot should be the same size as the diameter of the print.
It is recommended to lubricate the bottom of the seal with vegetable oil, and then wipe it with a napkin and place a stamp within 10 seconds, otherwise the sealing wax may freeze. It is necessary to take away the seal with special care so as not to spoil the resulting drawing.
Why are wax seals needed?
Wax seal with different prints is applicable for any scrapbooking idea. For example, creating an imprint with highlighted wedding rings can be used when decorating attributes for a wedding ceremony: invitations to a holiday, postcards, sealing alcohol bottles. Prints with nipples, strollers and sliders will be relevant when creating children's items. A drawing made in this way will itself suggest in which area it can be applied.
In fact, sealing wax is a mixture of resins dyed in a certain color. If you already have ready-made lumpy sealing wax on your hands, it will not be difficult to melt it at home. It begins to soften already at a temperature of 60 ° C. In any case, the value of 145°C must not be exceeded for sealing.
To melt the sealing wax, you will need the following devices:
- melting container;
- wooden stick;
- seal;
You can heat sealing wax in any metal dish. There are containers specially adapted for this, but if you don’t have anything like this at hand, the existing metal household utensils will do.
It is necessary to set a small level of burning of the fire and constantly stir the substance with a wooden stick, without bringing it to a boil. In this case, you can add a small amount of dye or essential oil to improve the quality of sealing wax. Then, the heated material is removed from the fire, and it is necessary that it cools down a little.
Only after that, you can carefully pour cooled sealing wax on the place of printing and sharply apply a metal impression, pre-chilled with water or greased to avoid sticking with sealing wax. The metal impression is taken away by moving to the side and smeared with grease before each print. You can correct a bent sealing wax by pressing it against a hard surface.
